How to Save Money at Dermatology Pet Care
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google

Nugget has been coming here for a year. After her first visit, her condition got significantly better. She’s also not the easiest dog to handle (despite miss girl being older), but the staff have always been understanding and nice about it. They know how to approach and handle dogs and that makes our visits here easier. Slightly more expensive than your regular vet, but it’s a specialty practice and the service/results have been greatly appreciated

At the time of writing this review, I have been seeing Dr. Simões for almost a year. Prior to first meeting her and her staff, I had been taking my cat, Anubis (we call him Nubie) to my regular vet for what I suspected must have been allergies. While my regular vet was super helpful in determining my cat had allergies (and also treating them a little), Dr. Simões was leagues above from just the initial visit alone. Nubie came in wearing a full body suit and a soft cone that looked like an orange slice - he wouldn't stop itching and I was at my wits' end trying to help. Dr. Simões not only crafted a longterm goal to permanently relieve my cat's allergies, she also sent us home with an immediate plan and medication that would make Nubie comfortable in the interim. Something that stood out to me the most was the fact that Dr. Simões was acutely cognizant of the fact that Nubie is FIV+, and as such, typical treatments need to be monitored or changed because his overall health is at risk. Every time we needed to change a med or add something or do bloodwork, Dr. Simões would regularly remind me that we needed to be aware of just how this might affect Nubie due to his FIV+ status. She even went above and beyond by consulting her colleagues in the veterinary field to be sure she was treating him safely and optimally. I was, and still am, so appreciative of that. Nubie is doing great under Dr. Simões' care, and is back to his sweet, loving self. I am thrilled to see him thriving and loving life again. Additionally, her staff are just the most caring, kind individuals and love on your pet as if it were their own. Nubie would get so excited when they came in the exam room and demanded they pet him while he rubbed his head on their shoes. :) After my experience here, I am most angry with myself for not getting my cat in sooner - I was regularly informed that trips to a veterinary dermatologist would be super costly, and attempted to avoid it if I could. After relenting and coming here, I actually saved money in the long run because they oftentimes cost me less than my regular vet! Definitely kicking myself for that. If I could give advice to anyone who is looking for help for their critter, it would be to just do it. Take them in, because the relief they experience from treatment is so absolutely worth it. I would also suggest that you plan to spend some time here: my visits were always at least an hour long, and a lot of that is waiting. There's only one doctor, and she's providing the most top notch care one could want, so she spends a good amount of time with every patient (including yours!). I never had a problem with the waiting, because the quality service they provided was always worth it. Nubie goes in for checkups every few months and gets bloodwork done, and he's never been happier. I am so utterly thankful to Dr. Simões and her staff for everything.

This is for my dog Jack. He gets very nervous however, Dr. Simóes and her staff are great. They are always very patient with Jack and calm him down for his procedures when other vets would have really hard time working with him. They really make sure your pet is taken care of. Thanks Dr. Simóes and staff for taking care of his allergies.

My dog has been coming to Dr. Simoes and her team for about a year or so, and I am very happy with the experience each time. The office staff is professional but very friendly. Dr Simoes really cares about your pet, she is very easy to talk to, and she really knows her stuff. I would highly recommend Dermatology Pet Care to anyone who has a pet with a dermatological problem. I see people complaining about the price, and I get it, I'm not made of money either. But you're paying for Dr. Simoes' and her team's expertise, which is well worth it. My dog has had skin problems all her life and she's 7 now, it took 6 years of going from vet to vet to vet to finally get some answers. And Dr. Simoes had the answer as soon as she looked at my dog. Seeing your dog go from no fur and itching like crazy to fluffy, majestic, and happy is absolutely well worth it.

I was sure I’d already left a review but apparently has not and that’s a huge oversight because I love this dermatology clinic. The entire staff here is incredible and they think through the details to make visits successful. I have a nervous dog, and traditional vets offices where you have a bunch of dogs waiting side by side in a tiny room are nightmares for us because he would absolutely bark and lunge if I tried to put him in that situation (we wait in the car instead). But in this office, they orchestrate it so only one dog is ever in the waiting room at a time and that tiny detail is EVERYTHING to me and my pup. They also have let me stay for his IV insertion to see if it’d help him be less nervous with I truly appreciate it because we are working so hard on building his confidence at the vet and having a team willing to work with us on it is so helpful. I also really trust Dr Simoes as a vet. We had a tumor removal that she could see didn’t have clear margins. But when the report came back it said the margins were clear. Instead of just accepting the easy answer and moving on, she followed up with them saying she didn’t think that was the case. Then she squeezed us in same day to do a follow up excision even though it was right before the holidays and extremely inconvenient for the staff. Really trust and appreciate this team and am happy this is where my dog goes for his allergy related issues.
