How to Save Money at VIP Petcare Vaccination Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The staff that helped us were very friendly, helpful with their advice, and I never got the feeling they were pushing us to purchase anything we didn't need. They were gentle with our cat and we liked our experience overall. The wait time was a bit long (we were 6th in line before they opened, and we waited for 2 hours before we were seen; our visit only took 10-15 minutes once it was our turn ), but there is a check-in process you can follow online to hopefully not have to wait so long in person (we didn't know about this process until we arrived because it was our first visit). Overall, we would recommend this VIP PetCare Clinic to others, and we plan to return!

Very disappointing that the Wellness Care portion of the clinic has shut down. The prices are now higher for less service. The staff could not have appeared less interested in being there. The environment looked cold and practically empty compared to how the previous space looked and felt. The male vet showed zero interest in my questions and seemed only there to administer the shots and that is it. The space went from a compassionate walk-in clinic to an impersonal service. I may not return because of the lower value that is offered.

DO NOT USE VIP PETCARE. I have worked in the animal industry (veterinary, pet sitting, training/behavior) for over a decade. Customer service is PARAMOUNT. I am not at all happy with how I was treated today at one of the VIP Pet Care clinics and will instead be using Vetco walk-in clinic at Petco. Vetco offers appointments as well as walk-in services. VIP Pet Care’s website specifically states that they are a WALK IN clinic. I got there as soon as they opened in order to get Kody a vaccine. That’s all we needed. One simple vaccine. I sat down in a row of chairs that I assumed were the order of those waiting. I sat there for quite awhile and was not greeted by any of the staff. I finally noticed a sign fairly far away from the chairs that had a QR code on it and said “scan to join waitlist.” I went up to a woman who worked there and said “I thought this was a walk in clinic, first come first serve?” She said that “we are first come first serve, based on the waitlist.” I was told that due to me just joining the waitlist now, even though I’d been there a long time, I’d have to wait an hour or two. I was free to go home and come back, they’d text when it was within a few people before my time slot. The problem is, NO ONE told me this. It is not on their website, at least for this specific location. I gave Kody trazodone for this instead of taking him for a walk, and now he can’t go for a walk because I gave a higher dose since I thought he’d be at the vet. It was stressful for him and for me. I now have an appointment coming up for this vaccine at Vetco. I also highly recommend Douglas Blvd Vet Clinic for an actual primary care vet for your dog, they are AWESOME. Anyway, I tried to call customer service twice and both times their line said they are all in a meeting and to call back later. I submitted my experience through an online form. I hope they can improve their services in the future. But if this is their business model, I wouldn’t trust them with my or your pet’s medical care.

The appointment system is easy when you know it. Same day visits are great. The vet, Dr. Katharyn Hart and her assistants are friendly, caring and thorough. Just heard the have shut down all VIP Car Centers. I'm so disappointed. We would follow Dr. Hart if she opens up somewhere else.
