How to Save Money at Arbor View Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Reception is welcoming. They listen to concerns and get the help needed. The techs are well-informed and friendly. The Vets are personable, caring, patient and knowledgeable. All of my questions are always answered. I am confident my dog is receiving excellent care. As I was leaving, a lady (without an appointment) brought in her small dog who had what looked like an eye infection of some sort. She was very worried. The staff was reassuring and told her a vet would see her. They care.

We had a couple days of non stop emergencies for my dog Ginger. Although we have been coming here for years, these visits were especially stressful and we thought we might have to put her down. The vets and techs went so incredibly above and beyond to help me last min navigate drop offs, pick ups, they even offered to help us give her her pills if we could get her there in the morning and evening. WHO DOES THAT?!! The amount of stress and worry they helped take off my plate, working with my crazy work hours trying to drop off and pick up?! I’m honestly never going to forget their kindness and support through such a horrible time for my dog and me. And the best news is, she’s still with us. They saved her, through their patience, care, and support. Thank you Arbor View for being such a wonderful facility, filled with people who are helpers . I’m eternally grateful.

My Great Dane was treated 8/19/23 He’s a handful and requires special handling and care when being seen. Arbor View is always accommodating his needs to make him feel comfortable and safe by putting him in the larger exam room that has a small couch. I can’t say enough about this clinic and vets. My Great Pyrenees Daisy was treated wonderfully at her 1yr check up. Staff was also wonderful and kept me updated when the vet was running a bit behind. ❤️ arbor view

Our pupper is normally pretty skittish to certain things but during this appointment, my husband said she LOVED the vet! She immediately was drawn to her and didn't hesitate to go to the back. She also didn't have any issues with getting her shots, which she normally doesn't but man did my husband rave about them when he got back to the car! Awesome vet! Been going to them since 2020 when we first got Gracie Lou. They have always taken such great care of her.

Arbor View is ok for scheduled routine visits, but I was really disappointed when my dog needed to be seen right away for an abscess. I called on a Saturday afternoon hoping that they might have had a cancellation or an emergency opening. I was told by a very unconcerned employee that they had no appointments for at least two weeks. I asked if they had something open for emergencies and she just said I would have to call on Monday and see if a drop off appointment was open. She was so abrupt and made it obvious that she didn’t care if my puppy was able to be seen or not. I was able to find another vet who was very kind and accommodating and I will be going to their office moving forward. I understand that appointment times fill up and you are not always able to accommodate last minute appointments, but you should always be able to be kind and empathetic, especially to a pet parent who is stressed and needs help. Maybe try to hide your disinterest just a tad.
