How to Save Money at Pedley Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

They performed an insurance physical and orthopedic evaluation on my Malinois. She trusted the staff, that's a major plus. The price was fair. I will continue to take her to them when needed.

Been going here for about 15+ years so I've had experiences of every phase of each of my dog's life with this hospital. My overall impression is very positive after all these years. I think the only negative experiences I had were that one time the staff was arguing with each other, or maybe with one of the doctors(this was years ago) but I don't think the doctor still works there. Ever since, everything has been professional and friendly. I wish I could explain some of the more amazing moments in detail but I'll just try to summarize to a single story. I had a dog that was suffering from tumors and eventually liver cancer. There was one particular growth on his leg that was putting my dog in persistent discomfort and pain. The growth happened really quickly and I was desperate to get the growth removed to ease the suffering. Around this same time, it was also discovered there was a growth on his appendix that also needed to be removed. Despite the risks, Dr. Monica agreed to do the surgery and remove both growths. Both removals went well and my dog was given another 6 months of relatively pain free life until the liver cancer stated to take a toll and the first growth was reforming with a vengeance and was putting him in discomfort again. The Dr. Monica again came to the rescue and agreed to do this high risk procedure to give my dog a few more months of relative pain free life. Surgery was successful and we continued with chemo. He eventually succumbed to the liver cancer despite chemo. When the time finally came to put my dog down, the staff was entirely respectful and empathic. This was quite literally one of the hardest days of my life and I think the staff understood this. Considering how much time my dog spent here during his final years, I think the entire staff felt the weight of the loss. I have about a dozen other stories similar to this but maybe not as heavy. I've felt fortunate to have this place so close by to where I live and have a lot of stories where this place has come through for me where other places have not- especially during covid where vet appointments were delayed significantly.

Twice in 4 months we have had to say goodbye to two fur family members and everyone at Pedley is always very caring and compassionate. We really appreciate the kindness. Great vet and staff

Almost exactly one year ago I had to put down my childhood baby Blacky. It was very last minute and most places would not take me in due ti covid procedures but the people here were amazing and understanding and let me be in the room with him. My mother had abandoned me halfway through and left me to pay the bill myself even thought I was 17 , and crying and in pain, and even through all the drama she caused the people here were very understanding and compassionate and made sure me and my baby were comfortable til the very last minute. I've never been more admiring and grateful to anyone as much as I am to the people who work here. I would never reccomend anyone else, and all of my animals will be coming here. They were quick, they cared, and they gave the best service I've ever recieved even with everything that was going on. Thank you so much for taking care of me and Blacky, and I will never forget it. I'm grateful until the end of time 🖤 and I know Blacky is too.

I found this place driving down limonite. I took my dog to get checked because she's been acting strange :( The personel had a bad attitude, looking at me up and down, because I had sweats and a t shirt.. 😑 I had to the money to pay, don't treat people differently. My dog got x-rays which didn't show much. There's no communication between the workers. I thought the Vet said my dog was getting fluids. when I received her back, the girl said she didn't get anything. So, I'm still not sure what took so long to her back.. overall spent $304 on x-rays and visits ( 2 meds- that might even be needed) :( I'm finding another vet. This place is not worth my time.
