How to Save Money at Veterinary Emergency Group

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The best emergency vet I’ve ever been to. My cat had to stay overnight, and the entire team—doctors, nurses, and techs—was incredibly kind, patient, and thorough. They answered all my questions (even when I spiraled into many scenarios) and reassured me that I could call anytime to check in. They even offered for me to stay overnight with him, but I had to return to my other pet. The facility is beautiful and clean with an open floor plan, free snacks/coffee/water/tea, and such a welcoming atmosphere. They even have couches that turn into sofa beds if you wanted to stay overnight. You can really tell these doctors and their team know exactly what they’re doing and how much they care. While I hope I never need to return, I’d trust them with my cat again in a heartbeat. He’s home and feeling really good now, and I’m beyond grateful.

Brought my dog here because he got attacked by two dogs while he was on a run. He was bleeding still when we got there, and I had no idea the extent of his wounds. From the first phone call with Molly, I felt like we were in good hands. The staff never made it seem like we were a burden, and everyone was very sweet and respectful of his nervous temperament. The facility was really clean and modern, and they have a courtesy snack and drinks area, which was really nice because we were there for a few hours from check in to leaving. Molly was so sweet and cleaned up the blood my dog left on the floor while we were in the bathroom so it didn't look so distressful, and she even got him towels and a doggy bed to lay in since he didn't want to lay on the couch after awhile. Dr. Mackenzie Forsythe was amazing. She was very clear about everything and thorough. I love her demeanor. The nurses were all great as well. We were lucky to work with Ben, Gabrielle, and Sierra. Ben and Molly were very helpful with some billing stuff at the end since the other dogs' owner was footing the bill for us. Gabrielle and Sierra were so kind and patient with us, and they were so personable and accommodating. I really appreciate the fact that you can stay with your pet from start to finish here unlike some other ERs Ive been to where they just take your dog and you have no idea what's going on for hours on end. I got to keep him comfortable and happy the whole time and even got to watch the procedure. These people care about service quality and patient comfort, and you can tell they care about the families as well. All wonderful folks. The vibe in the office was so chill too, so that really helps the animals, I'm sure. It didn't feel like a crisis center like some of the other places We've been to, and I wish all vet experiences were this pleasant. They really made a terrible, stressful situation palatable and memorable in a very positive way. I hope we don't ever have to go back, but I would come back in a heartbeat for any other emergency.

All the techs, front desk staff, and doctor were great — I hadn’t been to VEG before and even though it had great reviews, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But the staff were very friendly yet professional and helped keep me informed and comfortable, in addition to caring for my pet. For about half of the time, we were in the unique common area where most patients were - it was surprisingly quiet and calm in the alcoves they have though and felt semi-private. We were then transferred to a room and that was also great. I very much appreciate how we were taken care of and definitely recommend this to others! Thank you to the staff for your help today

We rushed here because my doggie niece decided to indulge in Halloween candies (wrappers and all!) and started throwing up this morning. This place is immaculate and impressively designed – honestly better than many human clinics I’ve seen in the Philippines. The staff here are absolute gems: sweet, attentive, and clearly experts at what they do. From the clean, welcoming environment to the knowledgeable care team, this clinic is a standout. Highly recommended for any pet emergencies!

Dr Shannon and the rest of the team were great. They handled by dog with care and kindness, and even though she had to have stitches, she was wagging her tail the next day. What a great service, and a relief to know they are there 24/7
