How to Save Money at Sun Valley Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Excellent, compassionate care at reasonable prices. I have taken all three of my dogs and both cats here, and seen both vets. I never feel like I'm being pressured into anything. They always present me with a written cost sheet BEFORE we embark on any kind of plan of care ( other than just a routine visit). If I'm short on funds, the doctors are respectful and help me figure out what is most important to have done for my pets immediately and what we can have done the next week, the next month. When my sweet old dog got cancer, I was not pushed into a bunch of expensive tests or treatment that was not going to help him. Instead, he was offered dignity and pain relief and clear guidelines as to when enough was enough. We had a few good months where he enjoyed his life because of this. I continue to bring my animals here and enjoy their good hours and nice people. They are a good, solid practice and I recommend them highly. Parking lot is slightly hard to find: make the turn right after play it again sports

Pros: The prices are very fair, and the techs are incredibly friendly. Her normal vet was booked, and they were able to see me on short notice for an emergency visit and explained it would be at a higher cost. Cons: they left an open wound on my dog's backside and did not explain what I should expect or would need to do for wound aftercare. Do I just leave her bleeding all over herself and my house? Can she wear a diaper? Am i supposed to clean the wound at any point? My dog's entire butt area is covered in blood and still bleeding 18 hours later. The vet just added an over the counter product to my bill without explaining the necessity. There was no communication regarding how to care for the wound as it healed or how long to leave the cone on. I was incredibly stressed during the visit and of course couldnt think of every single question to ask. It very much felt like a thanks for your money, now hurry on situation. You can see from the owner's responses to other negative reviews that they don't care to address customer concerns and deny/brush every criticism off.

Absolutely terrible customer service. Twice I've tried to call their office and both times whoever answers their phones has picked up and immediately put me on hold. No greeting, no confirmation that I have the correct business, nothing. Then I sit on hold for over 10 minutes before someone finally answers. Both times I've been given the excuse "We're busy..." as if that somehow means you can't say a simple "Hello, this is Sun Valley Animal Hospital, we're speaking with another customer, is it ok if we put you on hold?" This is BASIC customer service and they can't be bothered. If you need a vet in the area and don't mind a small 15ish minute drive, I recommend East Hills Veterinary Hospital in Antioch. Great people, great vets, and great service.

My experiences at Sun Valley Animal Hospital were nothing short of a nightmare. The first incident occurred when my two-month-old Chow Chow needed her second shot. They took her to the back, and to my horror, I witnessed the vet scolding me, claiming my dog was “crying, screaming, and peeing like an idiot”. She ended up biting one of the vet techs. Instead of handling the situation professionally, the vet blamed my dog's behavior on me not training or socializing her properly, which she was attending classes and being socialized. She said I need to or else she would reach to be “40 pounds of nonsense”. It turned out weeks later I found out they had a student attempting to give the injection, which only added to my poor pup's distress. This lack of empathy and competence was truly disheartening. But the horror didn't end there. Recently, I brought my 8 weeks teacup Maltipoo in for shots. As I waited in the room, I overheard a vet tech making utterly offensive remarks about my tiny dog, questioning if he had a brain due to his size. Kept mentioning “he must be brain dead” asking someone else “do you think he has a brain?” This blatant unprofessionalism and insensitivity were beyond belief. After these traumatic experiences, I have decided to never set foot in the animal Hospital again. The way they handled my beloved pets, was not only irresponsible but also utterly unprofessional. If you genuinely care about your fur babies and want to provide them with the best care, I strongly advise you to steer clear of this place. There are plenty of other options out there that will treat your pets with the respect and compassion they deserve.

This is by far the worst experience i have had at a vet. The appointments are not easy to get the location and office not very appeasing. When i arrived with my dog, who was barking and afraid, the staff was almost helpful, the vet stood in the corner afraid of my dog. The price very expensive I was looking for a new vet as i recently moved here, I read the reviews, i thought this one was close and a good choice. Not true in my case. Not going back
