How to Save Money at Whiskers Animal Dentistry & Oral Surgery
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have a special needs dog that was born with an incomplete snout and a cleft palette. Her birth defects led to many dental issues over the years. Recently, she was in need of an extensive dental exam and possible extractions. My vet highly recommended Dr. Carter at Whiskers to do a thorough cleaning and exam of her very complicated mouth and dental issues. Dr. Carter did an examination and x-rays, turns out she needed 6 teeth extracted that were either cracked or rotten with infected tissue surrounding the teeth. I went ahead with the procedure and cleaning and was very pleased from start to finish with Dr. Carter, Heather, and the staff at Whiskers! Top notch care and service was given all the way through. Dr. Carter was very good at explaining the procedures step by step and also checked in by phone later in the evening to be sure that Shasta was doing well after a big day of oral surgery. Being a small business owner myself, I feel that care and excellent customer service are extremely important...I definitely felt both of those qualities from everyone at Whiskers! I also appreciated how clean their facility was...and love the wall art of the staff's pets on the lobby walls ~ very fun idea! I am happy to report that my sweet girl, Shasta, is feeling great now that she has had a good cleaning and that those yucky teeth are gone! I highly recommend Whiskers!

We have taken both our dogs in for cleaning and treatment, very impressed with the level of professionalism and care given to our pets. Dr, Clark and staff are great about questions and keeping us up to date when our dogs were being treated. We plan on returning for more cleanings in the future.

Everyone at Whiskers Animal Dentistry and Oral Surgery is professional, kind, and great communicators. My cat, Mr Biggs was diagnosed by a local veterinarian, Dr Hertzel, to have all of his teeth to be extracted. Dr Carter put my mind at ease and assured me that he commonly performs this type of surgery. The surgery was exactly as Dr Carter described and after two weeks of recovery, I’d say Mr Biggs is living a better life than ever before. Everyone working there has a love for animals and it is easy to notice. ❤️ Thank you!!

I cannot express my recommendation for Whiskers Animal Dentistry & Oral Surgery strongly enough. Both Dr. Carter and his dedicated team went the extra mile to ensure a comforting and positive experience for me and my dog, Bruno. Bruno was savagely attacked and nearly killed by another dog. Among his severe injuries was a broken jaw, requiring immediate emergency surgery. Dr. Carter didn't waste a moment and took swift action. Grasping the urgency of the situation, he managed to get Bruno into surgery without delay the same day. Throughout this challenging time, all our inquiries and worries were met with patience and clarity, making me feel incredibly fortunate to have been referred to Dr. Carter at Whiskers. Their exceptional service is something I can't thank them enough for. The transparency of their pricing structure stood out to me, proving to be incredibly reasonable and competitive. Their detailed step-by-step explanations of what to expect provided me with a sense of comfort and trust. I was confident that Bruno was in the safest and most capable hands. I will always be grateful to Dr. Carter and his entire team. Without their compassionate and exceptional service, Bruno might not have pulled through.

We took our cat to Whiskers. We cannot begin to tell you how appreciative we are to Dr. Carter and ALL the staff we encountered. Dr. Carter first did a consult, taking pictures of our boys mouth. From there he gave us an education on what was happening in his mouth. He had dentals prior but not for a couple of years due to being diagnosed with diabetes and then Acromegaly and treatment at UCD for his condition. After the consultation we set up an appt for surgery which unfortunately was most likely a full teeth extraction. Dr. Carter explained not only what was happening in his mouth but also gave us a low to high estimate for the work. A full mouth extraction was completed without any complications. Within in a few days our boy was back to himself, and eating wet food without a problem. He has healed well and on f/u got a clean bill of heath as far as his dental. The staff were professional, courteous and friendly. We came in at the high end of the estimate due to needing all his teeth removed, but we had been prepared. The whole ordeal was not cheap but would do it all over if need be. You will not be disappointed going to Whiskers for your pets dental health where you and your pet will receive excellent care. The patient definitely comes first. Attached is a pic of Handsome Harry
