How to Save Money at Vetco

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Went here for just a general check up for our pet cat. Was very disappointed. The staff are ok but not very welcoming. You will not feel at home or won't feel of going back for a vet visit. When we got there, we were immediately shown into a room. I asked if it's ok if we let our cat roam around the room because she's getting antsy in her crate, and the staff said yes as the room has already been sanitized. We wouldn't want her to catch anything there. It wasn't cleaned even if it looked like it or if it was the way they clean is not really good enough, My daughter had a lot of what seems to be dog hair on her shirt when she got in contact with the exam table to ensure the cat will not act out while being examined. We waited for a bit for the vet who upon arrival just felt her body combed through her fur a bit peaked into her ears and said she's a healthy cat. It just took her more or less 1 min to see our cat. Then we received no after visit papers.

As I am reading a bunch of these reviews I see people are very ignorant not knowing everyone is human. Things get lost even in the most prestigious locations. Anyways just have to rant about that really quick. I had a great experience..I made my appointment through the Petco app and the questions and prompts were awesome no delay very quick and easy to use. I made my appointment for 8:30am thinking everybody would be groggy but no I showed up ON TIME, a lot of people get mad when people are upset when they are late. How about you show up on time and see their mood then. Anyways I was welcomed with a smile and they asked if I was the 8:30 appointment I said yes and my cat's name. They sat me down for 2 minutes and took me to the room. Sat there while a assistant got information about my cat and we weighed her and all that fun stuff. The Doc came in about 5 minutes later and asked me what was wrong and I mentioned all the details. I was told a list of issues/problems. As well as solutions clinically or at home. As well given option to what to do text, exam wise. They don't charge you whatever they ask what yo want to do for your pet and tell you the cost. Anyways I went home with an exam for my cat and medication and she recovered after the medication and I had a very pleasant visit at this vet. Thanks for reading my long review of this vet. Thanks!

UNPROFESSIONAL!!!! they cancelled my appointment at 2pm for 4:45pm. harassing me by calling 5-6 times to confirm without leaving a message.but I called back and confirmed. Then calling 3 more times to confirm on the day even tho i confirmed already. Harassing me to move my appointment earlier even though I said I can’t make it earlier. then cancelling my appointment by email saying they won’t have time to see me since it’s close to 5pm. Then don’t schedule appointments at 4:45. Have your last appointment at 4pm. I’m super annoyed. I waited a long time for this appointment and they wasted my time. I have to wait even longer now. I don’t even go there but my location in Glendale was available even later. WILL NOT BE GOING EVER! Stressing me all day with phone calls.

They canceled my cat's appointments at the last minute. I wasted money on bloodwork (good for only one month) for him to get neutered, and had scheduled his surgery a month in advance. Now I have to get it redone because they canceled. But I won't make the same mistake again with Vetco. Yes, Vetco is cheaper but the inconvenience is not worth it. I'd rather pay more at a responsible and reliable vet office. Very disappointed and upset that they wasted my time and money.

First off why isn't there a direct line to the vet? It's a total differen number on Google that doesn't even work. Very hard to communicate with staff in regards ro my dogs symptoms with medicine. Second, I was given medicine for my dog with a contagious parasite and they fail to inform me to separate my dog or even ask if there were more dogs in the home. Now I have 2 sick dogs. I don't understand . The rooms were filled with hair not very clean. But I know animals will let fur loose. But still if there's anyone that can sweep up after each customer has gon into a room that would be an extra star . I just feel like they are careless. I don't think ill be back either reading the rest of the reviews and having many similarities in my appt here. I'd rather pay more just to kake sure my dog is being attended with the utmost care.
