How to Save Money at VCA Butte-Oroville Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Update! VCA commented on this review asking me to contact them personally via email with my concerns. I did so immediately and surprise surprise, they completely ignored me! I have four dogs and every time we visit VCA for a wellness check, the doctors and nurses are completely uncaring. I brought my 2 year old in today for his first wellness check and the vet felt is back, looked at his tummy for an old rash that had healed, and then left. She didn't check his teeth, ear, joints, nothing. $300 later and the receptionists are writing me off because I complained about being charged for an exam that didn't happen. This place is filthy and unprofessional. I have not had a single good experience and I just moved to the area. Not a good welcome to Butte County at all. The male doctor is super creepy and doesn't seem to know how to interact with dogs at all. The female doctors literally wouldn't even look me in the eye and left after two minutes. I had been waiting for over an hour each visit. This place is a scam. Edited to add, they removed my review from their website. Good job on transparency, guys! No one should ever trust the health of their pets with you. Seriously the worst vet I've ever used.

The ladies up front are very nice but i lost all confidence in the vets that work here when my dog got a full blood panel a month before she died of Cancer and they noticed nothing. I can’t possibly return. She was only 7 years. I guess its just not enough of a personalized experience for me. They have so many vets cycling through and so many clients that they don’t have the time. I wish i knew before then so we might have been able to catch it earlier and possibly saved her life.

My experiences with this office have become increasingly worse since they became vca. Its to the point i cannot even reach the office directly, but have to go through a call center to reach anyone. It took 30 min of being on hold just to learn that they cannot fit my dog in this week for a limited exam of a new injury. I've been taking my dogs here for over 10 years and before me dad took our dogs here for as long as I can remember. I hate to leave as the veterinarians themselves are wonderful and the team there has always been great, but unfortunately it's time.

Oroville VCA provided me with an appointment date only 2 days away from me calling! Every other vet in town has at least 1wk-1m wait time for an appointment! I was amazed by their availability and then by their professionalism! Once I showed up I was impressed by two separate waiting areas for dogs and cats! The cat side was very quiet and relaxing and my kitten didnt stress at all! Once I'd filled out a form, I was taken immediately into an exam room with my kitten. The Doctor and nurse were punctual and polite. The Doctor made me feel welcome and that he was truly listening to my concerns about my kittens health. He worked with my kitten so beautifully, I was amazed at how gentle he was and how willingly she allowed him to examine her. In the end, the Doctor gave me foolproof instructions and provided me with peace of mind. A goodie bag was also provided to me as it was Misty's first vet visit, which included a 1 month supply of Revolution topical parasite prevention, a heavy duty laser toy, an even heavier duty plastic ball with a jingle bell inside, a stuffed cloth mouse, and multiple informational pamphlets. I left their hospital paying only $115, including my exam fee of $70 and the treatment/medication costs! 5 stars for Oroville VCA!!!!!

Amazing staff. Fair prices. Most importantly, They truly care about animals and it shows. I have been to every vet clinic in chico, and this facility is by far the most compassionate towards animals. Not only that, the wait times are not obnoxious like Chico VCA, and the vets actually spend time with you, validating your concerns and worries about your pet. The front desk staff are great too. I can’t recommend them enough.
