How to Save Money at Temecula Valley Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I cannot express how grateful my family and I are for the outstanding care and attention that Dr. Downs and the team at Temecula Valley Animal Hospital provided to our beloved German Shepherd, Libby. From the very first visit, Dr. Downs displayed an incredible amount of patience, taking the time to address all our concerns and questions regarding Libby's health. Her willingness to provide detailed explanations and offer guidance truly set our minds at ease. What sets Dr. Downs apart is her commitment to going above and beyond. She didn't just stop at the office visit; she followed up to check on how Libby was doing, demonstrating genuine care for our furry family member. The level of dedication and expertise we experienced at Temecula Valley Animal Hospital is truly unmatched. We feel fortunate to have found such an exceptional veterinarian and a compassionate team. If you're seeking the best care for your pets, look no further. Dr. Downs and her staff are the BEST around! Thank you, Dr. Downs, for your exceptional care and unwavering support. Warm regards, - Ron B. -

I've been coming here for the last year with my 2 girls, Cali our 7 yr old German Shepherd and Pickle our 3 yr old Pug. Dr. Downs is quirky and very kind. You get the feeling that she genuinely cares about your pet. The office is clean and organized. Front desk is very calm and helpful. I would definitely recommend.

I wanted to take the time to write this review because Dr. Downs and her staff have been so kind and incredible. Last year I lost my first baby and after many visits to a previous vet I had finally decided enough was enough and I needed answers. Dr. Downs gave me those answers I was desperately seeking and that helped me make a really tough decision shortly thereafter. I still cry every single day and I don’t know that’ll ever change but now I have phenomenal people I can trust with my guy that’s still earth side. In fact, my boy Ollie just had a dental and despite my nerves, everything was great! They even called to check on him the next day.

I struggled for 13 years to find a vet until I found TVAH, I wish I found them sooner. I live in Moreno Valley and I drive 45 minutes just because this place is like no other. The minute you step inside feels different then any other vet. I rarely ever see another patient, I always felt like it was only me and my fur baby in the place. Everyone is so welcoming and patient. You never feel rushed, this is the problem with most vets. It’s always just a business transaction or them trying to Overcharge you. Not with this office! Dr downes always ALWAYS gave me more then enough time even with the amount of questions I have had. She is an animal whisperer I swear. They treat your pets like they’re your children. I had to make the hardest decision of my life and let my fur baby go, I was a wreck to say the least. They had so much compassion and patience with me, they would of stayed all night waiting on me if I needed. I truly believe these people are angels on earth. Britney the assistant treats you like your family and something about her presence is calming. I am forever grateful for her. My dog used to shake and cry when I’d take her to the vet until coming here. She would get down and roam around the room without any fear. I would seriously drive 3 hours if I had to, just to come here. TVHS is like no other.
