How to Save Money at The Animal Doctors of Mission Viejo (formerly Family Member Vet)
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I love this place! Very reasonable prices, wonderful doctors/staff, incredibly responsive, and they never make you wait for appointments. I was taking the pups to another highly recommended vet in Mission Viejo off Marguerite But it was always a challenge getting an appointment. They would not respond to emails and if you called, they put you on hold for a long time. I decided to switch to this place and my only regret is not finding them sooner. My female Yorkie was spayed here and healed within the first day. I didn’t even have to use a cone (picture is from the following day). Marybeth is wonderful. Whether I email her at night or call during the day, she is always there and ready to fit me in. And Angela is very understanding when it comes to last minute cancellations. I definitely recommend this office for your animals.

Dr Angelo is amazing, I am very grateful to him for his great job that he did for my dog. I came to FMV hospital for the third opinion - two previous veterinarians (across the street) were not really interested in a proper diagnostic of the problem, but wanted to present me an estimate for the surgery. I didn’t mind the surgery but I wanted to find out what is going on first before proceeding with it. Dr Angelo took his time and really, I mean REALLY examined my dog, did all the tests including FNA and then gave me the options. We decided on the surgery under sedation and local anesthesia (opposite from the other vet) and he did great job on the surgery. Addressed each of my concerns, squeezed me in right away once I called, the office is super clean and new, the stuff is professional and friendly. I highly recommend dr Angelo!

Great staff and we were in and out fairly quickly, without a lot of upselling that you might experience at other vets.

Decided to go here as they had more of a family vibe that I'm used to going. And no, not because they have family in their name, although that is kind of interesting and unique too. Unless things are really dire, which they usually aren't, the Vets here take on a more conservative approach. Just like at your human doctor, even tho it seems unsure, not everything is an emergency, and if it is, your pet belongs at the emergency hospital, not your regular vet. You could choose to go a different route and order excessive tests for your peace of mind, despite the Vets here not seeing the urgency. And mind you, they've had education, they've gone thru training, they've had trials. They've seen so much worse... and so I appreciate that they have a cool head on and can be realistic and logistical. 14 years of cat ownership with hundreds in-between for tnr and cat rescue with 2 handfuls at home now. And with this vet and the one prior in anaheim, not one lost from negligence. No intentional delusion or malice. Good honest people who will suggest this and that and reinforce a necessity here and there but aren't pushy or black and white with all or nothing attitude.

My wife and I felt the dedication/ courteous and knowledgeable staff.. Drs approach was “Holistically assessment “ followed by a batter of lab test..Cost aside we knew Bogey was getting great treatment… 24 hour response was greatly appreciated of test results and recommended further test to confirm his diagnosis.. Thank you
