How to Save Money at Central Valley Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

They tried their absolute best to save my heart cat Zeke, unfortunately I had to let him go and they gave me a quiet and safe space to say my goodbyes as we helped him leave this world. They were so compassionate with his care and my emotional state of loss and grief. It took me a couple years to heal from the loss but I have brought my new cats in and know they will recieve the best treatment with knowledgeable and supportive staff. All of the doctors and vet techs here treat the customers' pets like their own. Very professional and affordable and work great with pet insurance to ease the claim process. My trio will be here and have the best care for the rest of their spoiled lives.

Please do not bring your pets here! I brought my dog here for help with a urinary infection and trouble pooping. They said they found a hernia and she had a mild urinary infection. After spending $500 on the exam blood work, urinalysis and antibiotics she started feeling a little better then took a massive down turn. I took her to another vet where they found a massive heart murmur this place never told me about, only when the new vet called for their notes had they made a notation on the heart murmur, but couldn't be bothered to tell me. In fact they told me her heart was in great condition.... It wasn't. This made her ineligible for the very expensive hernia surgery they said she needed. she also had a massive bladder blockage which they missed and caused me to have to put her down yesterday. they were not able to give me the correct information, and completely left out some other very important information. All they care about is the money. The new vet I took her to was very caring and was didn't try to price gouge someone seeking help for a beloved pet.

If I could rate this business 0 stars I would! I have taken my dog to this business twice this year for a severe allergy. I have spent hundreds of dollars at this business trying to get my dog care. Our last visit was about a month ago and it was money down the drain as the shot he was given, did nothing for him. I really liked this place so I called to see if a vet could give me a call to give me some advice on how to make my dog a little more comfortable as he is miserable and I have exceeded my funds to provide the care for him. All I asked for was advice. The clerk told me that we could schedule an exam (which he's had twice already this year) and they would need the payment up front. All of the times I have taken my dog here, I have NEVER been asked for payment up front. Basically I was SOL and they won't help me. Terrible TERRIBLE customer service! Because I have no money to afford treatment and their high fees, they won't help! Very disappointed at this establishment. Never coming back!

Last minute emergencies are no problems for this wonderful clinic. So grateful as we are a rescue ranch for larger & farm animals & birds, yet when a 2 week old kitten was dropped at our breezeway by some creature with a lot saliva on a cold dark eve while my husband was mucking stalls , he was lucky enough to see the barely alive kitten. Filled with pus wet, runny eyes & nose, fleas & mud in it’s barely there teeth, he brought it in saying save it. We have worked by Gods grace non stop with everything we have & it got better then worse again then better then back to worse. Bcuz we feed and rescue so many at our place we are maxed beyond measure but CENTRAL VALLEY VET said bring her in and we will do our best. The first pre exam was wonderful, Jess was all heart and understanding. Even more so lifted my spirits by assuring me I’d done everything so far right in all the meds & supplements I’d tried so far . Nothing “catty” or condescending about her. I’m so thankful. Next came Dr BAJWA , He was flat out genuine! His spirit was light & filled with a different kind of peace from a sincerity for the love & appreciation of Gods creatures. He understood my heart for saving & protecting life. All lives matter & have value. I can’t thank Central Valley enough.
