How to Save Money at Summit Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We contacted Summit vet this morning when our 10 week old kitten injured his front legs. They took us in immediately and Dr. Parvizi was thorough, gentle, informative and very reassuring that the kittens legs were sprained and not broken. He spent time with us explaining what to do and was very compassionate with the baby kitten. I have not been to Summit vet in several years but my experience today was excellent and I highly recommend them. He gave the kitten some pain medication and DIDN'T charge us for the examination! Great experience! Thank you Summit Vet!

Angela is the best nurse ever. She is quite responsive and responsible. I was relocating to another country with my cat. The paperwork is very complicated. Angela helped a lot and our travel wouldn’t be so smooth without her help.

This used to be a reliably caring, transparent and competent hospital + boarding facility. We recently had an experience, where in after two days of boarding we returned to find several overcharges for services we did not ask for. When you check your dog in, you sign a form indicating the services you want. There were two items we didnt want for our doggo(s) that the super rude assistant, Kendall insisted we asked for but couldn't show any proof. Because it wasnt listed in our intake form! She tried to charge us an extra $200 for the services. She was so condescending about the whole ordeal, even trying to imply that my wife and kids were trying to get away with getting free services, even though she was totally in the wrong. Super sketchy. To make things worse, they handed our 10 year old boxer back limping and bleeding from the quick, which had been cut too short. No antibiotic. No discussion. Additionally, I called back to discuss this issue with management and was hung up on without any inquiry as to what I was calling about. I called back only to receive super disrespectful and condescending harassment from this same assistant. When I asked to speak with the manager, I was told there is no manager on duty. No accountability, really? Animal service and owner's comfort are the purpose of these hospitals, boarding facilities. In this case, they failed miserably and tried to scam us for money on top of delivering sub par services. My advice. Stay clear. Send the message that they have to lead with honor, respect and compassion for the animals and people they serve.

From the time you walk in to a clean, well-managed veterinary hospital with a friendly, professional staff ( including Clara, Kendall, and Angela), the service received definitely earns five stars! My kitty needed vaccines and bloodwork and my dog required bloodwork, vaccinations, and teeth cleaning with an extraction. Thorough testing was performed beforehand, which gave me peace of mind knowing the anesthesia would be safe for all 6.9 pounds of her. Dr. Imani and Dr. Parvizi were very thorough and communicative with results and procedures before, during, and after tests and surgery. And with follow up the next day. I couldn't be more pleased with the exemplary service and quality care. Thank you Summit Vet!

I just want to shout out to the Summit Vet, I just took my two kitties in this morning and the experience was great! The office staff and the vet staff were very kind and helpful, and the vet took the time to explain everything I needed in detail and was not too pushy with the few things I wasn’t interested in receiving. Over all they took care of my cats and they’re prices weren’t bad either for everything I received for two cats visits. This was my second time brining my animals there and it was the same experience the first time as well. Thank you Summit Vet!
