How to Save Money at Rancho Park Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Been taking my pets to Dr. Marks for many years. All of the doctors and staff here are outstanding. Good vibes all around and they have helped me through some difficult decisions with my cats care. Great vet.

Initially, I was recommended to Rancho Park Vet by a friend, but I am truly disappointed with my experience. Dr. Johana Choi, our main veterinarian, has been exceptional. However, the reception staff and vet assistants have been consistently horrible. On one occasion, I was berated by a receptionist when I asked for further clarification on my pet's records. It was completely uncalled for and unprofessional. Furthermore, a vet assistant shocked me when she abruptly inserted a thermometer into my dog's ear without any warning. This caused extreme physical and emotional distress for my pet. Such lack of consideration is unacceptable. I have made several attempts to get in touch with upper management to address these issues but have had no luck so far. This incident with the receptionist, whose name is either Juana or Jana, was the final straw for me. Her behavior was completely unprofessional, and I believe appropriate action should be taken. I had high hopes for Rancho Park Vet based on the recommendation I received, but the negative experiences I've had with the reception staff and vet assistants overshadow any positive aspects. If the staff would like to rectify this they should contact me immediately.

Great place if you're rich. The records they sent to go back a one year, but I started with them prior to the pandemic. They don't seem to know my dog or care about my dog. He has horrible allergies and since the pandemic money's been tight. They're holding his meds hostage. Can't get the shot he desperately needs, until he has a "yearly check up." How urgent is a "yearly check up?" Everyone seems very polite when excepting your payments. I expect they show a lot more care and are more responsive to pets from rich families. They choose to let my dog suffer. I'm not rich, I must look elsewhere.

They consistently run out of pet prescription medications on an ongoing basis regardless of their added costs to order with faster delivery on their online pharmacy. Or they just don’t look at their prescription orders for full week periods while their patients run out of medication and get sick because of withdrawal. My cat is older and has IBD and they have consistently been late by DAYS to refill her medications. They have never apologized or taken accountability or offered any solutions either - their staff is ignorant, rude, and unhelpful. So disappointing for how expensive this place costs. My cat has been sicker under their care do not go here.

Both Dr, Marks and Dr, Ramirez really seem to care a lot about my beloved dog Chloe, and readily answer whatever questions we may have. The assistants are always very kind and sweet to the animals, which helps put our dog more at ease during her visits. Also, the Vets treat my dog in a timely manner, so our wait time is minimal. Once Covid restrictions allow, it would be nice to once again be able to go inside with our dog instead of waiting in the parking lot and have more face to face time with the Vets, Highly recommend!
