How to Save Money at Marina Veterinary Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Left me on hold for 10 minutes when I tried to call to let them know I was running late for an appointment and to see if I should come in or reschedule. I called at 358, at 408pm when she finally picked up she said as long as you can make it here in 10 minutes you’ll be fine and you won’t be charged a late fee. Then said I had until 415 but gave me till 417 an extra 2 minutes grace period to get there to avoid a late fee ( what? That’s still only actually 9 minutes). I tried to get there as fast as I could, but got there at 420 after almost getting hit by a truck making a left onto their street. When I got there she said the vet couldn’t see me without charging me a $45 fee. I’m absolutely flabbergasted by this weird interaction I just had and terrible level of customer service. The long hold time, the 9min 10 minute grace period, the extra 2 minutes why not just tell me to reschedule and keep my business or help me out because there were unforeseen circumstances? We’ll never know. I just can’t go here again. I’m disappointed. Also it is very sales heavy.

I would give 10 stars if I could The clinic is equipped with modern technology and equipment, allowing for accurate diagnoses and effective treatments. The staff works seamlessly together, providing a well-coordinated acomfort of botand their owners. I was there today for my Roxy (for urine ) all other veterans kept putting her on wrong medication DR Moss in less than 2 hrs had her X-ray and ultrasound done and actually gave me the right medications base on facts and what he saw. same day app same day consultant everything was done same day Overall, my experience with Dr. Moss at the Marina Veterinary Center was exceptional. Their expertise, compassion, and dedication to providing the highest standard of care for pets are truly commendable. I highly recommend Dr. Moss to anyone seeking a veterinarian who will treat their furry family members with the utmost respect, l Btw my bill was very reasonable

Been taking my dog here since I moved to the area. Very friendly staff, helpful, prices are reasonable. They work well with my dog and are happy to answer questions over the phone when necessary.

We have had a long-term, great experience with MVC and Dr. Moss across four pets. We found their medical team very knowledgeable, and appointments were achievable without too much of a wait. From puppy care to cancer treatments, end of life, and all the other visits in between, we have been through a lot with Dr. Moss. We have experienced a variety of veterinary offices over the years, and MVC has been one of the best. The dollars and cents are never fun, and they keep going up everywhere, but Dr. Moss was always in our corner, and when costs were a concern, we found a way to navigate through. When we moved an hour away, we even found ourselves driving back because the local veterinary office was a struggle to work with. Dr. Moss, we thank you.

We have been going here since they opened. Conveniently located for Westchester. All the staff are caring about the animals. Our 17 year old dog is well looked after here. While not the cheapest (which vet is?) it is well worth it for the care they give.
