How to Save Money at LAASER Los Angeles Animal Specialty, Emergency & Rehabilitation

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Had a furry beast emergency. Called all over LA and they were directing me to another play that needed $2-3k deposit to see your pooch. LAASER told me to just call when outside. They sent a link to fill out some info while you wait in the lot. A vet tech comes out to get your furry beast and then the Doc calls you with all the stuff and breakdown or what's gonna be done. Waited a few hours but they took care of my furry beast and sent them home with meds. Highly recommend this place in case of an emergency for your furry roommates. Call ahead and let them know.

On the evening of 3/15/23, after already taking the love of my life to the Vet to get her examined for her severe GI symptoms, my dog looked extremely weak. Never having experienced this type of upset stomach, and seeing my dog become completely lethargic due to exhaustion, I freaked out. For a few hours I thought I was going to lose my beloved doghter that has been with me for over 10 years through thick and thin. Thank you to the kind lady on the evening (around 8:00 pm) at the front desk, the caring tech who came out to help check the vitals, and the compassionate tech that returned with my pet with some reassuring news that helped eased my mind after knowing I had just spent almost $1,000 earlier in the day and was still unsure of her condition, and could tell I was borderline losing it 😭. I probably wouldn’t have made it through the night myself had it not for the kind people at LAASER. This will definitely be the place I go the next time I run into any type of emergencies.

The attending vet and staff were kind and compassionate. I felt adequately informed of options and was given the space to say goodbye to our dear Oskar.

Came here from my pet’s primary veterinarian because he didn’t have the ability to do an ultrasound on-site. I made the appointment while at my veterinarian’s office, spoke to an operator who was honestly extremely welcoming and helpful with my concerns and addressing my pet’s needs for going in. However, once at the office all that cordiality went out the window. I arrived at the front desk with my records to check in for my appointment. The gentleman who acknowledged my presence addressed me bluntly without any care or concern. I explained I was coming in with a referral from my Primary. He stared back blankly and began to explain the process as if I was someone just walking in. No bother, I sit down and await my for a room to open up. I waited for 45 minutes while walk-ins get assisted before me. No bother again, I figure the ultrasound needs a special tech for assistance. Finally someone takes my pet away and I am helped. They tell me it’s going to take 3 hrs and to come back later. Sounds good. I leave no more than 5 minutes away while I’m called by a Dr who starts giving me the run around to what they “think” it might be. I still give them the benefit of the doubt explaining I am referred by my primary. If they have “doubts” please review the X-rays and records and get back to me. The next 2 hours I get nothing but more back and forth, the run around, and tacking on of services my pet doesn’t need. At this point I’ve lost all patience. Frankly, the communication sucks. No one bothered to review my pet’s case nor reviewed the forwarded images nor reviewed the blood test nor the notes on file. Nothing. I wouldn’t trust this place with any concerns of mine or helping my pet. You’re better off speculating yourself.

My cat went there in a digestion emergency. The vets were very professional and attentive. The report was in detail, and the communication was efficient. The treatment was effective. However, they assume you drop your pet and leave, while never letting you know the correct pickup time. Every time someone told me to wait for "15-20 minutes" or "just half an hour", it actually took me 4x of that time for a vet meeting with me for the next step. Because of the wrong estimated time, I didn't leave till my cat's discharge. I even postponed my schedule to wait for the extra "half an hour" but actually that was 2 hours, I did nothing other than wait today; I got to finish the whole visit by bothering the front desk multiple times.
