How to Save Money at Beach Vet Hospital: Valikov Ena DVM

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

It’s hard to put into words how much Dr. Valikov Ena and her team mean to us. For one, when we rescued a Husky that we found on the street, the doctor and her team did everything they could to see her. She had a cough so the dr took the time to squeeze us in to see her outside. When we then found out she had an ear infection, the whole team supported our scared girl to make sure she felt safe, but also got the help she needed. For our old senior dog, another vet had apparently given her medicine (was taken to another dr by my mom without me knowing- I was on my honeymoon) and it made her eye very swollen. Dr. Ena again heard our concern in our voice, squeezed us in, and gave us medicine that immediately made our dog better. The doctor is very passionate about what she does and will not compromise her expertise for anyone- something I admire in a very fast, changing world. She teaches us how to take care of our animals and sometimes that means teaching us that the problem is us humans instead of our animals. We love Beach Vet. If you’ve felt judged, taken advantage of or just not care for by your vet, Dr. Ena will fix that. She’s our forever go to.

This clinic and team are absolutely phenomenal and I cannot recommend highly enough. Dr. Ena was incredibly compassionate and clearly an expert with my elderly (and grumpy) cat, and was able to diagnose and treat his problem immediately. When I moved to Southern California, I struggled to find a vet that was able to treat my cat, and was always very nervous about the exorbitant costs of veterinary care. Dr. Ena and her staff really care for their patients, and I feel as though Dr. Ena was very conscientious of ensuring that we could obtain the necessary treatments in the most cost effective manner. Dr. Ena and her team are very friendly and welcoming, and I sincerely appreciate that Dr. Ena took the time to explain to me how to best move forward with treating my cat. I am so grateful to have found this veterinary practice.

Nice, clean office. Quick service. Reasonable fees. Make sure you book an appointment. Covid restrictions mean that you must watch the vet do their work through a window. Much better than other veterinarians who make you wait in the parking lot the whole time. They were gentle and quick enough that my cat didn't even realize he got two vaccinations.

The staff was great, but the actual Vet was useless. I could have saved 200$ and went to the local pet shop instead.i already looked up on line what the problem was and all she did was confirm the diagnosis. I had to ask her to take blood, and run tests. She literally just looked at my dog and that was it. She didn't take a temp or check vitals. When I asked for on xray she kind of dismissed it by saying they would have to put him under for it t. I could go on and on. The waiting room is filled with cats roaming around and FLEAS EVERYWHERE! Pretty much they want to get u in and out as quick as possible. We thought the receptionist was the doctor when we got there. He was great, hes selling himself short working there.

Dr Ena is a character. She's very knowledgeable and has our dogs' best interests at heart. Her staff are lovely as well... I'm sure that they put up with a lot, between the pets and Drs and pet parents!
