How to Save Money at Vineyard Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I adore this clinic! Both my dogs and my cats see the veterinarians here. The office staff is fantastic- I moved from out of town and they were able to receive all of my previous paperwork and vaccinations via email. They have also managed to squeeze me in for emergencies even though they’re always so busy. The parking lot is huge and easy to unload dogs. Their guest bathroom is clean and their waiting area is large enough to tuck yourself into a corner to avoid the unruly dogs that come through the door. Highly recommend.

I have been With them for over 15 years with different pets over the years. I highly recommend them because their prices is right and fair and they are good with my animals over the years- they don't care what breed you have.

Recently moved to Lodi and felt it was important to get my pets established with a new vet as quickly as possible. I made a meet and greet appointment and was scheduled within two weeks. Wonderful experience with everyone at the facility! Several weeks later, I noticed that one of my dogs needed care. I was able to get an appointment within a few days. Once again...amazing service and care! That night my dog had a seizure, but recovered so I did not take her to emergency. I called that next morning and was able to get an appointment for 2pm the same day. My dog had a seizure while at the appointment. Again...she received the most loving care! My dog was scheduled for test as quickly as possible and her care continues to be phenomenal! The moral of this review is to stay established with a facility. Don't wait until it's an emergency to seek care. Don't expect a facility to bend over backwards if you aren't a regular patient. Vineyard Vet accommodated us in every way possible and continue to do so. I highly recommend them. However, don't be the owner that demands attention when they haven't seen you in over a year. Thank you Vineyard Vet!

First, I do love the vets at this facility; they are caring and helpful and honest. Moreover, I do not look forward to looking for another veterinary group; however, I feel I must because it is just impossible to get an appointment here. Perhaps those who have been clients for a long time do not have this problem; all I know is that there is never availability when I need it. In the last eight months, I have called five different times for appointments. Each and every time, I was offered an appointment two or more weeks out and told that, if that wouldn't work, I should go to an emergency facility. Of course, we all understand that emergency facilities exist, and thank God that they do. I have had to make several after hours visits to such vets in my lifetime and was eternally grateful for their existence. However, for the day to day stuff - the sniffles, fevers, constipation, diarrhea, etc. - one should be able to see one's home vet! Such issues are not typically emergencies. Moreover, you shouldn't have to pay double for the services of an emergency room when you have an established vet. The worst thing, though, is the situation that you don't realize is an emergency. You call for an appointment thinking you have a routine issue and are offered a date two + weeks out, so you take it. Meanwhile, you watch your pet carefully; all seems well until three days before your scheduled appointment when suddenly your pet begins throwing up all over everywhere! Now you definitely have an emergency on your hands! As such, when you're told one more time that Vineyard just can't fit you in, you take their suggestion and fly to the emergency hospital. And, there, a vet you have never met before issues you a diagnosis and you feel your only recourse is put your pet down. None of that, of course, is the fault of Vineyard; they could not have known my pet was sicker than had I guessed, and they did remind me the first time I called that I could go an emergency that day rather than wait. I wish I had, and I will always bear the guilt of that decision. Nevertheless, what good is it to have a vet that you can't see when you need him/her? This situation was not the first time this year that I was unable to get a timely appointment; it was the fifth! Fortunately, in that I was dealing with young kittens the first four times this happened, I knew better than to wait and went the emergency route, paying double for routine antibiotic treatment. Unfortunately, on the fifth occasion, I misread my pet's symptoms and made the decision to wait for an appointment; it was a grave error on my part. Bottom line, as much as I love the vets at Vineyard, I will be leaving them and looking for another vet group. I don't want my pets treated at an emergency facility every time they are ill; I want them treated by a vet whom I trust and with whom they are familiar. Vineyard apparently can no longer provide such a service, and I'm really sorry for that.
