How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We have always received excellent care for our 3 pets, 1 dog and 2 cats, at Banfield Pet Hospital and feel that they do a fantastic job with explaining everything upfront, breaking down each step and reasoning behind their plan of care, as well as the costs. For me, their Wellness Plans have always worked best for our pets needs and the monthly cost works out cost wise and budget wise vs. semi annual visits and lump sum payments. I have alternated between the Banfield in RSM, Footbill Ranch and Lake Forest, but recently found that the care we receive at the Lake Forest location is far superior and therefore, it is now the only Location we will take our pets to…in addition, I also learned that each location is owned and operated separately, therefore, your “home” location does matter! In particular, I’d like to mentioned Dr. Yang, Tech Dave, and the incredibly patient and helpful receptionist Mariah from our recent appointment and thank them for the exceptional love and care and follow up they provided to my beloved pup! Thank you Banfield!

As a former banfield associate who worked in the same market as this one I shouldn’t be surprised, but I was clearly naive to put my trust in any location. On Friday my friends cat began having problems and since he was under my account from when I worked for Banfield I decided why not bring him in since they already had his records. We called first thing when they opened and they said they could see him as a drop off which we figured the appointment would be anyway. They then call 20 minutes before his appointment to cancel when we were already nearly there. Saying the dr felt “uncomfortable” seeing him as a drop off. First of all they should have just said no when we tried to make the appointment so we could have found another hospital to go to. We were willing to go to an emergency hospital if need be which is what we ended up doing. If they had just said no at the start we could have brought him in to any other hospital, but since they changed their mind we ended up just going to emergency and paying triple what banfield would of cost and nearly double what a vca would of cost. The cat ended up being fine and could have waited as a drop off at this location no problem. As I stated earlier I used to work for two different Banfield locations in the area, so I know how they work. They said yes to the appointment because all Banfield cares about are numbers. Then the doctor clearly got overwhelmed with the work load and then they changed their mind, or maybe they weren’t even asked. A lot of Banfield managers will schedule whatever to reach goals to keep corporate happy and sacrifice patient and associate care in the process. Honestly I should have known better, but put my faith in this location regardless. I would literally have no issue if they had just said no at the start. Who cancels on the client not even an hour before their appointment. The level of professionalism is a joke.

When I first moved here, I took my two cats to an expensive “popular” veterinarian practice. I was not at all impressed and the price was horrendous. I tried the Banfield on El Toro Road and found Dr. Yang to be extremely caring and knowledgeable. The bill was also much better!

Banfield has been a great experience for me and my two puppies. I purchased the puppi plus wellness program which was a great deal. They also performed my two dog's paying procedures and they came out great. Their new covid protocol where you drop them off and come back for them for vet visits was a bit dissapointing but understandable. Overall my experience has been fantastic with them!
