How to Save Money at Healing Hearts Emergency Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

First, thank you to the staff and the Vet (sorry can’t remember her name but she was wonderful) on call that evening when we brought out sweet Charlie in. Unfortunately tragically and unexpectedly we would not be bringing her home. Our 11yr old Aussie had lots of fluid in the sac around her heart and was shutting down fast. They took her right in and from there everything happened so fast. Her diagnose and prognosis was not a good one. We had to make decisions fast and the Vet was so compassionate and honest with us, and while it was such a difficult time, we were truly grateful for her empathy and raw emotions. We were very impressed with everyone that we had interaction with. The hospital was very clean, organized and well staffed. The pricing was very fair and not outrageous like most emergency hospitals. It was after hours when we were there. Thank you!

I could not get my own vet to help me with the end of life situation we were in as it was the Holiday week .4th of July. Also tried 5 different at home vets and they were not around during the holiday week. We were in a dire state as my older Lab was going down hill fast. We took him to Healing Hearts and the care was exceptional. They brought in a nice bed with a fuzzy blanket and Brody layed right down on it . Dr Bob Bershauer DMV was exactly what we needed he kneeled on the floor next to Brody as my husband and I were too.Dr. Bob stroking his paw as we said our goodbyes to our beloved 💔

We had one the worst nights of my husband/i’s life at this place: our 9 year old cat Buffy passed away here. Though I want to highlight how amazing the team here was and how thankful my we are and were for everyone here on April 19, 2023. The team here were all very emphatic, respectful, and caring; I know they did their best to save my beloved Buffy. I called at 745p frantic describing my cat’s symptoms, I got to speak with someone immediately and they listened to me and advised me to come in ASAP (it was comforting). Upon arriving, they immediately took Buffy in and started working on her (she couldn’t breathe; we later found out she had fluid in her lungs). My beloved Buffy would pass shortly after they got her, there was too much fluid in her lungs and she had a heart attack. My husband and I were very upset, and the team here gave us space and time to process what happened. They were the only vet hospital open so late and I’m so grateful. Everyone here was beyond kind, compassionate, and respectful. We were also told that our Buffy’s body would be treated with the utmost respect afterwards (we loved that they reassured us this). I asked if we can bring our Buffy’s body home before they cremate her so I can have our other pets say goodbye; everyone was very understanding about this request and they gave us a box with her body respectfully put inside. I was touched. We brought her body back that night and the entire team respectfully came out to get her body. We paid $405 for the emergency service (Buffy couldn’t breathe and they had to work on her ASAP) and $350 for cremation with all the additives available (urn, name input, imprints) [there were cremation options for less than $100]. It was the saddest day of our lives and we thank the team here for their help that awful evening. I’d like to thank Jennifer at the front desk for her kindness and love. We were sobbing messes and she was beyond respectful and compassionate during the hardest day of our lives. She was the one that answered the phone and walked me through coming to the clinic so they can see Buffy ASAP, she processed us, and when Buffy passed away she was very comforting and compassionate. Jennifer, thank you.

I can not say enough good about Stephanie. She was so sweet & comforting to our pup and us. First time EVER my dog just went in the back at any kind of clinic. Sure, at first, he was like, " Uh, no thanks," but she was patient and just had this gentleness. They are my new after hour goto fur sure. Thank you Stephanie.

So happy to have found this place! It is so clean, organized, and I love the emergency hours schedule they have. Everyone we interacted with was kind, patient, and skilled. They were very clear with us with what should be expected (process), their diagnosis, cost, and aftercare. Our pup loves people, but can get very nervous and I could tell when they were done that she felt safe. The issue our dog came in with has cleared up perfectly thanks to the team and Dr. Supance who definitely took time with us to explain things, which I really appreciated. Everyone there has a true passion for animals and it shows. They have snacks for humans too, which is a nice bonus. Absolutely recommend!
