How to Save Money at Aliso Beach Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I won’t take my dog anywhere else, and I am VERY PICKY. Dr Hayter, Dr George, and their entire staff is incredible. I’m talking ABOVE and BEYOND. They got my baby in right away, took care of her wounds, and she is back to being healthy and happy! Thank you!

Dr. Hayder is great. I wish he would open his own practice. The front office staff here is so unbelievably unhelpful and nasty. They were nasty to me, my sister and my Mom. The other vet who works there will not confirm any prescriptions Dr. Hayder writes and he’s on vacation for the next month so I guess my dog is just stuck with fleas.

This place is a joke. My first appointment here they had me down at the wrong time. They forgot to weigh my cat. I had her scheduled for a dental surgery for three weeks later. A few days before they call to reschedule saying the dr won’t be in. How did they not know that when they first scheduled? I reschedule for a week later. Patient drop off time is between 7:30 am and 8:30 am. I arrive at 7:35 and the building is dark and closed. Absolute joke. I fasted my cat and tortured her with a car ride for nothing. Do not bring your animal here. If they can’t get an appointment right why would I let them put her under anesthesia???

Update to my review... I cannot say enough about Dr Hayter and honestly the entire staff at Aliso Beach Animal Hospital! In June 2022 our cocker, Dutch, scratched his eye and Dr Hayter (and a visit or 2 with Dr George who is just as fantastic!) worked a little magic and with a couple of procedures, PRP and other drops the hole is now gone! (We were able to bypass the animal ophthalmologist which only had availability 3 months out!) This place is wonderful! To quote my friend I referred "Loved Dr Hayter! Super low key and spent a lot of time with us." (She had all of her pup's transferred ASAP!) The other staff members from the front desk gals (Lynda and Shay) to the Tech's and assistants in the back everyone is so kind and helpful. Dutch was never afraid when they took him back or checked his eye. We are very grateful that we found Aliso Beach Animal Clinic and HIGHLY Recommend! Dr. Hayter is FANTASTIC! We live in Laguna Beach, but first met him at a Vet Hospital in Tustin, and tracked him down to the Aliso Beach Animal Clinic- he is that GREAT! Our Cocker, Dutch, is a little anxious about the Vet and Dr. Hayter is so calming and reads animals so well that Dutch is very comfortable with him! Making the appointment, getting in and follow up with the staff here was also seamless, and they are all very positive and welcoming in person. I would also like to add that Dr Hayter is NOT one of those vets that tries to nickel and dime you on everything or upsell you on tests or products etc. SO REFRESHING! If you are looking for a Vet in the area look no more!!

I have been taking my dogs to the Aliso Beach Animal Clinic for almost 10 years now. Dr. Caroline George is so kind, compassionate, and she really takes her time to talk to you when you take your dog or cat to her. She follows up with phone calls to check on your pet after hours and on weekends. I really appreciate the excellent care that she gives to my dogs. I trust her completely, and I highly recommend Dr. George to anyone who is looking for an honest, compassionate, and knowledgeable vet. Her staff members are also very kind and caring.
