How to Save Money at BluePearl

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Exceptional Care and Support at Blue Pearl Veterinary Specialty in Irvine, CA I cannot speak highly enough about the exceptional care my dog, Penelope, received at Blue Pearl Veterinary Specialty in Irvine, CA, under the supervision of Dr. Berry and his remarkable team. My experience began with Penelope in severe pain due to a ruptured vertebral disc and artery. Dr. Berry's thorough examination and MRI were instrumental in diagnosing her condition accurately. His explanation was detailed and compassionate, leaving no room for uncertainty, which provided immense reassurance during a stressful time. Penelope underwent surgery the following day and remained hospitalized for three nights. Despite living 60 miles away and unable to visit daily, Dr. Berry and his team went above and beyond to keep me updated and involved in Penelope's care. Daily videos and phone calls from Dr. Berry, along with the compassionate support from his assistants, America and Brie, eased my worries and provided comfort throughout the ordeal. Moreover, the level of attention extended beyond medical care. The front office staff even assisted in finding nearby accommodations, demonstrating a genuine concern for both Penelope's well-being and my peace of mind. During Penelope's hospitalization, it was evident that she received the utmost care and attention, akin to a 5-star hotel experience. The dedication and professionalism exhibited by Dr. Berry and his team at Blue Pearl Veterinary Specialty truly set a standard for excellence in veterinary care. I am immensely grateful for their unwavering support and commitment to Penelope's recovery. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping my little girl Penelope!

Shadow has been here a lot more than we would like, but they have been amazing. Dr. Rossi and her staff with his kidney issues, Dr. Pettigrew in Neurology was upfront and honest and the several ER vets we have met over many visits for falls, random injuries, etc have all been wonderful. They have 24 hour phone service for questions and I've had people answer medication questions or help with issues over the phone all hours day or night. All the vet techs are outstanding and the front desk staff helpful and so nice. I highly recommend them to all my friends and family. Your pet would be in good hands here.

I cannot thank the team enough for taking care of my nearly 20-year-old Jack Russell terrier, Milo, in a time of emergency. Their staff has been incredibly helpful from the moment I called, the moment we showed up, his entire overnight stay, and even since he’s been back home safe and sound. If you are local + have a pet — save their number in your phone immediately. Thank you again to all the staff for your continued support and care.

Blue pearl vet took incredible care of my dog when she was going through vestibular disease and was extremely sick. They truly made me feel like they were treating my little girl as if she was their own. Although vet bills can vet expensive, they were always extremely conscious of the testing they were recommending and the money I was spending. I truly feel that their top priority was the well being of my pet and not profit which has been hard for me.to find in a vet recently. I was extremely impressed with their service and the care they provided.

The Nutrition Sciences Dept at Blue Pearl Irvine headed by Dr. Kurzbard and her coordinator, Kim is truly an outlier. One of the few double board certified, Vetrinary Nutritionists in the U.S. who is currently seeing new patients, Dr. Kurzbard is your go-to for sound nutritional advice for those pet parents ditching “Big Kibble.” I first met Dr. K, when my standard poodle reached geriatric age and I needed to up level my home preparation game. Then again, when I brought home my first toy breed puppy. Her kindness and good humor went a long way when my nerves were frazzled trying to find the right balance between nutritionally sound and palatable to my dogs. She welcomes feedback and is not adverse to making changes at the client’s request due to availability and cost. Kim, is her very competent coordinator and is available to you to dialogue on a myriad of things (not just a scheduler), and manages the flow of information expertly. Dr. K’s lengthy questionnaire and intake process is well worth your time and effort— so that she can formulate a nutritionally sound diet that is both doable for the client and appeals to their canine companion tastes. Don’t Rush Through It! As in most things, preparation and perspiration is the key to success. Let her do the work for you so your time spent in the kitchen will yield the maximum benefits for your dog.
