How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This place has been amazing. Thank You so much to the Banfield Staff at the Hawthorne location. Jennifer is an amazing person who truly loves and looks after you and your pet. Katerina my beautiful maltipoo had to have her Health certificate done as we are traveling back to the United Kingdom. When I say to you that the Heathrow consulate doesn't make it easy I mean it. Our usual vet no longer Shane Veterinary Medical Center Marina Del Rey was absolutely no help and the worst( please read my review on them and don't choose them if you love your pet). Banfield was very helpful in guiding us and ensuring with Heathrow that every form was completed and filled out properly. The girl at the front desk with the cutest little voice ( I'm sorry I can’t recall her name) was truly a pleasure and wonderful person to greet you when you are checking in. I'm so excited we fly home with Katerina tomorrow. We also partook in there Harry Potter Themed festivities for Halloween this month. Which is also such a Treat and yes Katerina is Huffleruff 🧡🧡🧡

This hospital is truly caring of your pets. I've brought 2 of my family dogs here at the end of their lives and the staff here was so kind and caring for my family. We've had other vets but Banfield is by far the best in comparison to the others.

It was our first time at Banfield the staff was friendly you can walk in and drop off your pet, they were thurow in her exam the have a wellness program for our pets a puppy program is $62 a month including all puppy shots and spaying or neutering included office visits included, she needed her ears flushed ( 1st time covered) as she had yeast infection in her ears from the last bath she had from the breeder before she came home to me, there was a discount on her medication needed, They give slight discounts for added testing and procedures needed this is a wellness program not for accidents or health issues. Following up, Zha Zha stopped eating and drinking yesterday afternoon and became lethargic so they saw her this morning we had to run tests the wellness plan didn't cover anything but the physical ,office visit wasn't covered bloodwork/CBC/Urinalysis Subcutaneous fluid Therapy CPL (pancreas lipase test) The cost was. $572.00 Wellness program discount $133.00 Total paid. $438.00 Being we have a wellness plan the bill we received $133.78 discount. Something to think about especially if you have a pup that has or will have health issues to also get a full coverage insurance!

First time visiting this vet, went in on a Saturday and expected it to be busy but was surprised by how quick they took my cat in. Went for a regular check up and rabies shot. The staff there where so nice especially the veterinarian who spoke to me after treating my cat, who sadly was in the receiving end of my cats claws. Some of the past reviews got me worried to get my cat spayed here but taking the time to read on more present reviews for that. Will be returning for future vaccinations.
