How to Save Money at Veterinary Emergency Group
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I can’t even put into words how grateful I am to have found VEG. Our three-year-old mastiff, Maverick, was suffering from an intestinal blockage, and we had been bouncing around to multiple vets throughout Marin who lacked transparency when it came to a treatment plan—until we found VEG. From my first interaction with Rocky over the phone, I finally felt like we were moving in the right direction after days of uncertainty. The clarity and reassurance provided made all the difference. Once we arrived, we spoke with a doctor within minutes—a stark contrast to our previous experience of waiting hours just to be admitted at the PESCM ER one freeway exit away. We already knew Maverick needed surgery, and the VEG team didn’t miss a beat. They acted quickly, making sure every step of the process was clear. I was able to stay with Maverick until I decided it was time to let the team take over. Nurse Ali took great care of him, ensuring he was calm before administering anesthesia. The team’s professionalism and efficiency gave me confidence in that moment. Two hours later, we received a call from Dr. Jason—Maverick had made it through surgery, and they had removed a squeaker toy from his small intestine. A half-hour later, we were back at VEG with Maverick in post-op, where Nurse Ali, Dr. Valerie, Nurse Mo, Nurse Kat and the night staff explained what would happen next and shared details about Maverick’s vitals. For the first time in days, we felt a sense of relief. The following days at VEG weren’t just about recovery—they were about genuine care. Maverick wasn’t just a patient; he was treated like part of the team. He received plenty of attention from the staff, watched Wicked with Susie, and spent time with Talulah. He even had his own private room with a bed, which the staff jokingly called Maverick’s Motel. It was clear that VEG goes beyond medical treatment—they truly care. A special thank you to Dr. E and Dr. Andy, who spent three full days and nights caring for Maverick. They answered all of our questions, provided regular updates, and reassured us throughout the process. As an anxious dog parent, I can’t express how much their patience and transparency meant to me. The entire VEG team went above and beyond to support not just Maverick, but also us. They provided fresh baked cookies, snacks, blankets, drinks, and even a computer to watch movies while Maverick rested. The level of care extended beyond medicine—they made sure we were comfortable too. We will be forever grateful to VEG—not only for saving Maverick but for showing us what exceptional veterinary care looks like. They don’t just handle emergencies; they create an experience where you feel truly supported. While Maverick’s situation was our biggest fear come true, our confidence in his recovery never wavered because we knew we had the full support of the VEG team behind us. Thank you all so much! We will be back for a happy visit very soon! -Ava and Mike

So far the best emergency veterinarian I have gone to ! They make you feel so welcome and they attend your pet as soon as you walk in the door. You can also be with your pet while they are attending them. They even have snacks & drinks while you wait. Tip Toe says thank you for making him feel better!

PAW-SITIVE REVIEW FOR VEG - Dr Valerie + Nurse Jacey ❤️ From the moment we walked in, the staff made both me and my dog, Marshmallow, feel so welcome and comfortable. We were triaged immediately, and the staff went above and beyond to make the experience as stress-free as possible. Since Marshmallow gets a little anxious at the vet, Dr. Valerie and Jacey provided us with a private room that had a cozy couch/bed, blankets and dim lighting so we could cuddle while we waited. They offered us snacks and water which was such a thoughtful touch. One of the things I appreciated most was their open floor plan, which allowed me to stay with marshy throughout the entire visit. Gone are the days of sitting in a white cold room wondering if your fur baby is okay. Even when she needed X-rays, I was able to sit outside the door, which really helped ease my nerves. I loved their state-of-the-art equipment. Beyond their excellent treatment of animals, it’s clear they also treat their employees exceptionally well. After speaking with one of the staff members, it was evident that VEG truly values their team, making sure they take breaks and have access to food and drinks. A company that cares for both its patients & its employees speaks volumes! The team at VEG was kind, compassionate, and incredibly professional. If you're ever in need of emergency vet care, I highly recommend VEG—they made a stressful situation so much easier, and I’m beyond grateful for their outstanding care! ** photo was pre-vet, she isnt very happy with me atm***

My cat and I had a very positive experience at the beautiful new open-concept Veterinary Emergency Group office in Greenbrae next to Trader Joe’s. Dr. Walker, Maria, and Brittany took excellent care of Mr. Pickles, who had acute diarrhea and vomiting. They gave him a mild sedative before taking X-rays to rule out a foreign object. They also took blood which they analyzed on site within minutes, gave him anti-nausea injections, and fluid packs. We were in and out in a little more than an hour - amazing. They opened yesterday, and Mr. Pickles was their first feline patient!

This emergency vet is AMAZING. We brought Lola the dog in due to a neck injury. They immediately triaged her right there with me her owner next to her . They handled her pain and didn’t push X-rays because it was obvious to them it was soft tissue injury. Best emergency vet I’ve ever encountered.
