How to Save Money at Economico Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Kimberly, the Vet Assistant is so authentic & friendly! She provided such a pleasant experience for me as this was my first time taking a baby kitten to get checked after finding this poor abandoned kitty near my apartment building. Kimberly listened to my concerns and gave me the information I needed. She even took her time to clearly explain how to administer the medications to my baby kitten on 6-22-23. The staff here, overall are super nice and passionate about the work they do. Thank you so much Economico Animal Hospital! I'm blessed that your business is just walking distance away from my home. I don't know what I would do without you all!

Great staff and welcoming environment. Really came through during a time of hardship and emergency. We felt understood and humanized. It felt like we went to a community rather than a business. That's something unique that brings you back. I don't care if it's a drive, that alone is what will bring me back. Every. Time. Thank you to all the wonderful staff. You are appreciated and in our prayers.

I rescued an abused dog from the Downey shelter that had a large, bleeding ulcerated tumor on her belly. I took her to EAH to have the tumor looked at after a visit to another animal hospital that was way too expensive for us. I met Dr. Yoon and I am beyond impressed with his patience and ability. We feel so lucky and grateful for EAH. Dr. Yoon worked tirelessly to perforn a radical mastectomy on the dog. It has been two days and she is making a full recovery. I am beyond happy with EAH and I feel that writing this review is the least I can do. My advice to patients is to get to EAH just before 8am or 2pm to get your pet in the quickest - it is a walk-in facility. You will be in very capable hands. God bless everyone at EAH!

DO NOT GO HERE. They try to steal your money every visit by trying to charge you for an exam when something is wrong with your pet even though your pet should get an exam on the first visit and they tell you you should be covered for a year. I have never had this issue with other veterinarians. I take my dog for allergies and get his cytapoint almost every 3 months and every single time that i have took him they have tried to sneak an exam/ consultation fee on my breakdown of how much i am paying. Today i got out of there fed up when i took him once again for his cytapoint injection. He had a hot spot and they said i had to pay a 75$ exam fee for the doctor to see my pet because of the hot spot. I have payed this 75$ fee before with the doctor’s “recommendations” and have basically thrown my money to the trash with no resolution for his hotspot problem. I have been dealing with his allergies and hot spots problems for over 3 years and i know how to clean the wound and i have an ointment that i payed over 1000$ to see what he was allergic too. And they are still going to proceed to tell me i need to pay the doctor a 75$ fee to see my pet and give him the cytapoint only for the doctor to tell me its looking good and healing. DONT GO HERE. They recommend something one day of the month you go back the same day next month and recommend something else for you pet. NOT TAKING MY PET HERE AGAIN.

They are very pricey, BUT the service was excellent‼️ I took my dog Theo there for a foot injury. I could not afford the plan for x-rays, bloodwork, and possible surgery, but they did give us an ointment to help me care for him at home. I loved the personal care experience that they gave the pet and the owner. I would go back if needed. I am glad that my dogs foot is healing well. It looks like he didn't need surgery after all. I wish that the price of over $700 would have been on hold until they actually examined and gave him an xray. Then they would have seen what I saw.
