How to Save Money at Golden State Humane Society
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Wait times takes a while but in my opinion it’s kind of worth it if you have patience but shots takes very little to do will come for future shots for my dog I also loved they fed my dog whip cream as a distraction when she was getting her shots.

Here is my review. The staf were friendly, the service was excellent. Price to vaccinate my 13 lb, 5 year old mini dog was $25. for RABIES. 🐕 The facility is clean, and they have plenty of seating for you to wait. If your dog doesn't mind the noise or alot of other dogs and cats around. Mine doesn't, so I waited in my car. The staff will warn you about the wait... I was there for FOUR hours. They are so buisy that you get numbered. They are curtious enough to call 📞 you that it's your turn since we can wait outside or in my case in my car. 🚗 The parking lot is 5 spaces only so park in the street. It's a residential area, alot of apartments. Next time get there before it opens and wait. Make sure your pet is calm and relaxed and hydrated. I will be back.

Very pleased with the service. Called to check availability and provided accurate info. Stopped in on a weekday afternoon to get a rabies shot for the dog license. Quick check in and a short wait and dog received full shots including Rabies to keep him up to date for $54 in less than 30 minutes no appointment. Large air conditioned waiting area and ample parking. Recommend doing it on a weekday as Saturday gets super busy.

Once AGAIN, I couldn't reach ANYONE at the Long Beach facility, despite leaving MULTIPLE MESSAGES! I called the Garden Grove office & spoke with DeAndre AGAIN & he was so helpful finding places I could take my furbabies to! I don't know WHY the LB office doesn't bother to answer the phone OR why they can't be bothered to call someone back but just because I can't afford to go to an EXPENSIVE Vet doesn't mean I shouldn't be treated with respect or care. I wish I still lived in Anaheim so I could be closer to this place! Thank you De'Andre for caring! OK, I just spoke with THE NICEST person on the phone as I was trying to make an appointment. I was so impressed by how NICE De'Andre was! I brought my oldest fur baby here 16 years ago & NOTHING has changed about the way they treat people!

Booked a appointment and still had to deal with walk ins. Staff told me they needed dog vaccination records but when I provided the records they told me they need the receipts too. Would not check my dog in with out the receipts or calling vet to verify shot records. Very unorganized. Even with a appointment it was a 45 minute wait. Cost is low but won't come back due to lack of organization and professionalism.
