How to Save Money at Encinitas Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
We have a 6 year old cat and a new puppy. They have been excellent and honest with both.. and as a pet owner it’s hard to trust what is necessary vs not. Prices for appts, shots, and medicine have all been very fair and have not once felt pressured or taken advantage of. They are Frank with the options.. so you can make the best decision for yourself. Also, when your appt is at a time, they will take you at that time and it will be quick. Would trust their opinion for all things pet related. Front desk is also excellent! The nicest ladies and get you in and out quickly.

Best vet I've ever been to, and I've been to many (unfortunately), including ones nearby. They don't price gouge like the others do, they don't pressure with sales tactics like the others do, they somehow always seem to be on time unlike the others, and they're friendly, efficient, and kind. I've been looking for a vet like this for years and had nearly decided they no longer existed, but Encinitas Animal Hospital proves me wrong!

Dr. Ullman is the best vet we’ve used. Our corgi has had many health issues and Encinitas Animal Hospital has always given us the best treatment and advice. I really appreciate the time she takes to explain what is going on with my dog. I ask a lot of questions and the entire staff is very patient and responsive. I appreciate that Dr. Ullman explains my options and the pros/cons for each treatment. I can't speak highly enough about Encinitas Animal Hospital. Thank you for helping my boy!

Outstanding care and compassion for my dog Bella! They ensure the needs and care of your pet first without the hassle of up selling or taking aggressive measures when not needed. I can not say enough great things about Dr Sandy Ullman and her staff!

I visited Dr. Ullman for the first time yesterday with my cat. I was so impressed by the visit that I already transferred the records for all of my other pets to her office! Unfortunately, we had a very poor experience at another local veterinarian that we had been going to for many years. The owner there was great, but the administrative staff was terribly rude, it was nearly impossible to make an appointment and the other doctors always rushed you in/out of the office. The staff can truly make (or break) the overall consumer experience. From making the appointment to meeting Dr. Ullman the entire process was fantastic. No upsell tactics, more of a conservative approach. It is always hard to find a veterinarian that you trust with your fur babies, but Dr. Ullman is the best. She is warm, compassionate and truly cares to give the best care for your pets. If you want your fur baby to be treated like family (and not a number), take them to Dr. Ullman and her staff! Update: Visited again, this time was not such a pleasant visit. I had to let my baby go because his cancer came back so aggressively. The doctor and her team were incredibly compassionate and they made the absolute worst visit ever, bearable. They even took time out of their busy day to send a card that everyone in the office wrote a handwritten message. What an incredibly sweet gesture! I’m so happy I was able to find another fantastic veterinarian, they are really hard to come by. Thank you to everyone at the office for literally holding my hand through the process.
