How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Ryan at Banfield Pet Hospital was the most gentle, kind and informative vet I've ever met. I wanted to have my old dog's eyes runny I checked but the doctor did a thorough examination and validated what I suspected regarding his back legs. He was weak ligaments and arthritis developing in his back legs. So, now I know for sure that I need to get him some ramps so he can get on and off the furniture safely and I will not allow him to run up and down our concrete stairs. As well, his eyes were fine. The running eye was from dryness and old age. I just need to use some saline to rinse his eyes ocasionally. He didn't try to prescribe expensive medications. My visit to Banfield was beyond my expectations.

Banfield has been our household name for almost a decade. From Santa Clarita, all the way to San Diego, we've always felt love from them. They have helped us plan the passing of our last two dogs and it couldn't have been any more easier and supportive for such devastating times. Their OWPs are a must for pups of all ages and well worth the price with all of the benefits they include, like unlimited office visits, mobile pet chat and 1 to 1 nutrition advise to name a few. Thanks Banfield for always be there for me and my animals 🙏

Will never be coming back here. I brought my dog in for his routine dental cleaning. My dog is incredibly healthy with no issues, but after I picked him up, he could not even put weight on one of his front paws. I was not able to walk him for three weeks after this. I took him to another location a few days later, and they said that it was likely a muscle strain of some kind and prescribed an anti-inflammatory. When I called the Encinitas location to speak with someone about this, they tried to dismiss it as arthritis or other age related issues. I told them over and over that he did not come in with a limp of any sort, but now can barely walk. I asked for a refund on the anti-inflammatory medication and asked that any diagnostic testing or further medication related to this be compensated. After two weeks of trying to get a hold of the practice manager, I spoke with Cassandra, who told me that they would refund the prescription, but would no longer be compensating any further medication. She told me I would need to come in and have further diagnostic testing done, out of my pocket. She said that this was directly from the Director of the location and I asked to speak with this person. She said, “he’s just going to tell you what I just told you.” I said, great, I’d still love it if this person could reach out to me. She told me “he will get to you when he can” & hung up on me. Very disappointed that this was not handled with more care and concern to address an injury that was so obviously caused during his stay at this clinic. Update: sent an email 2+ weeks ago to the requested email address & received an automated email back stating I would be contacted within 3-5 days. I’ve received no response since. Based on the interactions I had with the vet & the assistant at my dog’s last visit with you & the total silence to my email, I really wonder what your policies are for animals injured in your care. Apparently it is radio silence.

They are so caring and personable. A great team good for old or young cats and all in between. Been with them through 2 generations of cats and we couldn't be happier! Also a great value and they always try to make sure we understand the cost and our options up front so no surprises.

People were coming and going steadily so I think pet hospital is competent. I was shopping next door at Ross. Today, Wednesday, March 24, 2921, I recommend visiting Theotokos at the Prince of Peace Abbey, Oceanside after taking care of your loved creature Happy Lent all!
