How to Save Money at Ark Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Close to home, saw me same day for puppy paw infection. Following Dr. Orders and meds. My dog has healed 100%. Great job. Little pricey, but don't have any other veterinarian to compare too. We are happy with them

They were available for a same day appointment which was great. But getting the requested help and addressing my concerns about infection due to a loss of teeth/poor dental health, swollen lymph node just did not happen. I asked about a prescription for simparica, didn't happen in a timely fashion waited 10 minutes before leaving in addition to the 50 minutes i had been there waiting and getting the exam, blood work drawn and nails clipped. Most of the time was spent waiting (2/3) despite their not seeming very busy beyond where to place their landline phones. When I got a call back about my dogs blood work the vet raised a concern about the health of the pancreas and wanted to run more tests. But my regular DVM said the numbers didn't indicate that necessarily but more likely a sign of infection. The antibiotics i got from my regular DVM helped with my dogs energy levels and seemed to help with her bad breath which I assume was the infection? that I could smell in her gums. Hopefully this will get her through until her teeth cleaning/extractions appointment. Overall they seemed ok just not very communicative or responsive to requests. Perhaps in part it was my difficulty in understanding everything that was said to me as I was having a bit of a hard time understanding everything with the doctors accent. Their receptionists/vet technicians? Were 👌 🆗️.

It's Me (Shorty)

I know this place has some bad reviews, but you shouldn't always believe everything you read. I've learned that you have to make your own judgements and opinions and person/place/thing. With this Said I do recommend this place. After calling one after the other in Google maps finally after10+ calls they were able to get me a same day appointment and take me in as a new patient. I had started to really get upset with every other vet telling me either they are all booked up or that they are not taking new clients. My own vet wouldn't even get me In. The vets whole crew although they do look fresh out of school are still very knowledgeable and they might lack experience but hey give them a chance so that they can. I mean I did and I don't regret it

i wish vets who only care about money were illegal to exsist.. they wanted to charge $400 for an exam and xray and keep the dog overnight. all i came was to get her bandage off. this place gave me really bad feeling my dog was shaking like crazy when we came here for a second time. when you go to a vet you should expect the vet to do whatever is best for the dogs health, not recommend test after test until the dog cant take it anymore and dies

I took my pup in for a rash, and the vet techs were very patient with him since he is terrified of the vet. Once they took him in they put a muzzle on him because he can be nippy when he is upset, and they put the muzzle on WAY TO TIGHT!! He had an indentation in between his eyes because of how tight they made it for him. Besides that everything was fine (:
