How to Save Money at Echo Park Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This has been my neighborhood vet for 20+ years. We’ve always brought our pets here to receive the best care. We have stayed loyal because I appreciate that they don’t try to eye-gouge you with insane pricing and also don’t recommend unnecessary testing and take advantage of emotional pet owners. I have lived in San Diego County for 15 years and continue to make the two hour trip (4 1/2 hours in traffic!) to them because they are worth it. Unless absolutely necessary I do not take my pets anywhere else. Ever since the pandemic they have moved to a first come first served basis so plan to get there before they open as they only take I think about 12 patients?(the number might not be accurate and I guess depends on the type of services pets need) They don’t have an appointment system which can suck but if you’re willing to stand in line for a Disney ride why not do it for the health of your pet?

Loved this vet. Prices were reasonable, Doctor was caring and recommended budget-friendly feeding tips, receptionist was cool and so were the techs. It’s walk-in M-F very convenient and wait wasn’t long. Very happy with this place.

I want to thank Echo Park Veterinary Hospital for the compassionate care they provide to all our furry friends. I recently had to euthanize my beloved 17 year old dog Terry. The vet thoroughly explained the whole process. She explained step by step what was happening. She assured us that Terry would not feel pain. This made me feel less worried. We were allowed privacy in a room after she passed. I am truly appreciative of the kindness we received. I highly recommend their hospital. Thank you for everything.💓

Best place to take your furry family. They are really nice and attentive. My dog was really sick and they were the only place that figured out what was wrong with him and got him better. Their prices are not bad also. Forever grateful.

This place is super trash with how they treat possible new customers. We walk in and the receptionist is looking at us like we’re lost instead of her being welcoming. Me and my sister proceed to tell her our issues with our pet and the entire time she had a bothered look on her face. She went to the back to ask her “doctor” if they could squeeze us in…mind you I heard the doctor from the back say no without a care in the world that I could possibly hear him in the lobby. He said no because they were closing (quote the receptionist). We entered the building at 4:50pm and they closed at 7pm and not a single customer was in the office and yet we got turned away within seconds. It was clear that they were on the same page of wanting to leave early on a Wednesday. Worst place to give your business too, worst place to take your pet for their well being. Definitely won’t go back and will definitely make sure people know that you guys care about profit only and not about the sole purpose of the field they chose to pursue. E.A.H don’t bother replying with that generic message that you guys strive for the best and to call you guys….. I want nothing to do with this horrible establishment and will never go back.
