How to Save Money at Oak Tree Animal Rehabilitation
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The staff at Oak Tree Rehab are nothing short of amazing! My Shih-Tzu, Mylo, was referred here following a hit-and-run accident. The staff are both caring and comprehensive. For example, both Dr. Blair and Dr. Waugh, plus a tech, were present for Mylo’s initial consult and evaluation. Mylo’s treatment plan was explained to me in detail, and they are transparent in their pricing – they even offer bundle pricing at a discount. I’ve been so impressed with the care Mylo receives here that I bring my newly rescued kitten to Acorn Vet for care and will transfer Mylo once he is due for his next wellness exam. Did I mention that I live in downtown Sacramento and choose to travel the causeway for the high-quality care from Oak Tree & Acorn?! They are THAT wonderful!!

The Oak Tree Rehab team are so good to my Lucy. They are patient with her impatience as a young dog and they treat her so well. They take the time to assess her needs and consult as needed. Lucy practically runs to see them every time.

The team here is phenomenal! I have been bringing my dog here since he was 3 months old and he is now 16!! I would not trust anyone else with him. When they opened up the therapy side too, it was a no brainer for me to check it out since he is a Labrador and has many issues with his joints. They have given me years more with my boy. There is not a week that goes by that we don’t visit for his therapy session and acupuncture. They tailored the therapy to his specific needs and listen to his body and our feedback on how he’s doing each week to give him the best session they can. He goes in barely walking and comes out zooming ready to go walking around and explore like he used to when he was younger. I only wish they treated humans too because I would be a patient!! Lol. Dr. Emily, Dr. McKinstry, Dr. Blair, Dr. Nixon and all the team that assist are truly outstanding individuals that take the time to care about you and your furry family member. I’ve always wanted to move to the coast but we simply can’t uproot our boy knowing he wouldn’t be getting this treatment each week. This clinic has changed our lives and we are so very grateful for all they do for us. We are on our 3rd package round and it’s worth every penny to see him so happy and doing well. The other thing I really love is they don’t just want to pump him full of synthetic medication, they use both eastern and western medicine techniques which is a very progressive and appreciated approach! They have also recommended products for him that really work and help us meet his needs as an elderly dog, things I would have never thought of. If you are considering therapy for your furry loved one, I highly recommend giving them a call and visit, you will not be disappointed.

I started taking my boxer Rocky to Oak Tree after I was referred there by the dog rescue I volunteer for. Rocky has some weakness in his hind legs. One of the main draws is the option for water therapy. Emily and the team are amazing! I am always greeted with a smile and everyone is always happy to see Rocky. Rocky also enjoys his time there, mainly for the treats! Thank you Oak Tree for helping to keep my boy strong!

We were referred to Oak Tree Animal Rehab several months ago for our Belgian Malinois, who suffers from a number of conditions, including arthritis, stenosis, and IVDD. Despite having tried years of treatments, such as acupuncture, chiropractic, hydrotherapy, and even surgery, he still struggled with discomfort and a lack of mobility in his hind legs. We met with Dr. McKinstry and Emily for his initial consult at Oak Tree; they immediately made us feel welcomed, and performed a thorough exam. It was apparent that they had both really studied his past records and had an excellent understanding of his condition. We then began a series of treatments that included shock wave therapy and cold laser, and we saw IMMEDIATE improvement in our dog! He has continued to improve with each session, and while he will never be "cured", we feel so much better knowing that the therapy has made such a difference. He also adores Emily and Allie and loves going for his sessions - such a contrast from when he used to get stress colitis after his vet visits. They genuinely care about him and it's wonderful to know that we have their support. I can't recommend Oak Tree enough; if you have a dog that might benefit from therapy, it's a top-notch facility that we are so grateful to have found!
