How to Save Money at BluePearl Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Blue Pearl Vet is the best vet I have been to in the Bay Area. I had multiple interactions with them over the course of a couple months. Dr. Michelle Martin de Bustamante (a dog opthalmologist who cared for my dog and ultimately performed surgery), was top notch and the staff - Natasha, Marina, Vi and others - were all so friendly and compassionate every time I spoke with them. What a pleasure to deal with such nice people. When Dr. Bustamente performed surgery on my dog, she called me before and after she operated on my dog just to let me know what was happening. Their medication instructions were well thought out and easy to follow (we had to give a ton of drops at 2 hour intervals) and when I had a question, I wasn't left on hold for 15 minutes. I drive 35 minutes to get to them but the difference in care compared to other places we have been (Vet Vision, Sage, Mid Peninsula) is significant. Really recommend this vet!

This place is great. Very positive experience. The communication from the very start was excellent, and continued to be so throughout the entire ordeal. The hospital was incredibly communicative, transparent, and so very helpful. They explained what they wanted and needed to do every step of the way, they gave me an estimate of the cost prior to the treatment, gave me updates as to how my cat was doing throughout the process, and amazingly they were even able to keep everything within a certain budget that I had requested! Most importantly, they took excellent care of my cat, and sent her home with medicine, treatment, very clear instructions, and tons of thoughtfulness and care. Thank you BluePearl!

This was better than a human ER, I wish I could go there when I need emergency care for myself! The night we brought our cat in was incredibly busy at BluePearl, but the staff were very prompt given the high amount of incoming patients & were very good about communicating as they assessed the situation. Details on our appt: They asked us before shaving our cat's fur to look for wounds, they asked us before doing xrays, they told us up front what the estimated costs would be, but most importantly, they were kind & attentive in caring for our cat. Veterinarian Emily Wiehl was exceptional & we're so thankful that our kitty is healing up well with their recommended after care. They gave us a referral to talk to a surgeon in case we wanted to get a CT scan for our cat, but also were clear about their own assessment vs the opinions of the off-site radiologist, we felt we were able to make an educated decision without being swayed one way or the other. Emergency vet care is always understandably costly, but BluePearl was more affordable than we anticipated & the quality care was worth the price. Thank you so much.

Had a very positive experience at BluePearl. Our dog's behavior suddenly changed and it was clear he was uncomfortable and in pain. His regular vet was out for the day and their office gave us a list of other vet offices and emergency services to contact. We called many places and were told they were too full. BluePearl was one of the only pet hospitals nearby that took animals on a first come first serve basis. We couldn't go inside due to COVID protocols, but the staff that came out to us in the parking lot were incredibly kind and helpful. The vet called while our dog was inside and explained the prognosis and treatment options. They were very thorough and answered all our questions. We left with peace of mind and much needed medication to make him more comfortable. The whole visit, which included exam, treatment, blood work and check out, only took two hours start to finish. We also found the prices reasonable and appropriate for the care received. I would definitely recommend them to anyone.

I recently had a very scary episode with my dog who suddenly developed what appeared to be, a neurological issue. My current vet was unable to see him on an emergency basis but referred me to several emergency veterinary practices. Each of the ones that I contacted before Blue Pearl where unable to see me for less than 4 hours, and told me that I would need to sit in the waiting room for periods between 4 to 6 hours before I would be seen by a veterinarian. Needless to say, with the symptoms that my dog was exhibiting, that was not acceptable. I called Blue Pearl last, as they were the furthest from my home, but I had seen some good reviews. The following is my experience. From the moment I called, the staff was accommodating, honest and seemed very invested in making sure my dog was seen ASAP, and that I felt at ease. I was able to get there within 12 minutes of my house, parking was excellent. When I arrived at the clinic, my dog became incontinent, and the excellent front office staff made me feel at ease with this. They cleaned it immediately. I was embarrassed, but they were totally accepting. It made me feel really comfortable. There were other clients ahead of me, but the staff let me know this was the case and let me know exactly what the status was of my dogs visit. The wait was much shorter than expected. Staff from the back office came out and spent time talking to me and telling me what it appeared to be from the symptoms that he was exhibiting. They were excellent at suggesting what I might do on my own before seeing a veterinarian, including doing a drug test at home. This was definitely engineered to try to save me some money in terms of veterinary fees and laboratory testing. I was very understanding and in retrospect, thankful for this input. I opted to have my dog seen by a vet and have the testing done there, as I just wanted to have an answer one way or another. Only then, did the staff then arrange to have the dog taken in the back to be seen by a veterinarian. He was seeing rapidly, and the testing done right there. Within a short period of time, the vet came back with the results of his testing and a plan of care. I cannot tell you how much comfort that gave me. She also took a good amount of time to discuss the findings, and what an appropriate plan of care would be. I can I tell you how comforting this was. Throughout the experience, the front desk people from call in to check out, Natasha, and Marina, we're fantastic. They care about what they do. They put me at ease, and made me feel like I I've been there client for years. I cannot tell you how reassuring and pleasant that was. They are the best! So wonderful to see people who are good at what they do and enjoy their jobs! Rare these days. Thank you so much! All I can say, is if you have an emergency, head to Blue Pearl. They are efficient, caring, and there for you. You could not ask for more. Karen Meyer
