How to Save Money at Crescent Animal Medical Center
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I don't live in Crescent City, but was traveling with my family and we had to bring our cat with us because she had recently begun having some issues eating. We took her to our local vet the day before we left and they had told us she needed a $3500 surgery, which we were planning to do as soon as we returned home. During our trip, Kitty seemed much more in pain and uncomfortable so we ended up bringing her to Dr. Mark. Turns out her problems were with her teeth and not her stomach and no wonder she'd been not eating because she was in pain! He gave us medicine to help her be comfortable, and explained all of our options carefully and compassionately. You could tell that our kitty's best interest was really his first concern. Ultimately, we had to make the difficult decision to let her go. The damage to her mouth was extensive and the treatments may have caused her even more pain and there was no promise they'd be successful. Dr. Mark handled the entire situation for us, and even created a little kitty footprint set for us to remember her by. She's resting peacefully under my mother's cherry tree now, but we will always be grateful to Dr. Mark and his team for helping make this very hard time for out family easier with their professionalism and care. Having been so disappointed with the wrong diagnosis and what seems in hindsight like extortive pricing from our local vet, and people in the area so we visit a few times a year, I may just wait and have my kids' kittens treated there too! (I included her photo so she can be forever memorialized on the internet! 🤩)

My dog was in bad shape with what I thought was a bad tooth. No one would/could help me at any vet on the south coast. After numerous calls finally I luckily called Crescent Animal center reaching Rachel late Thursday afternoon. It was refreshing getting an actual person on the line rather than a recording. Rachel was very caring and professional and said she'd talk with the vet and return my call. Sure enough a short time later she called with the good news that Dr Mark would see my guy Milo first thing Friday morning. Turns out my guy did need immediate help and even though their schedule was full and with plumbing problems to boot they stayed late and made sure Milo was helped and on his road to recovery. Dr. Mark is straightforward and a no b.s. guy who seemed as concerned with the health of my dog as I was. I have nothing but good things to say about Dr Mark and Rachel and have already recommended this veterinarian and give him and Rachel a huge 5 stars. Want to talk with a vet who cares about your pet rather then the office schedule and/or how much money they can get out of you because of veterinarian scarcity or ??? Then call Crescent Animal Medical center.

We love Dr. Mark, He did a awesome job on my 14 year old Icelandic shepard whose ears and teeth need attention. He identified her anxiety problem right away and went about treating her with that in mind. He is affordable, intelligent, and compassionate. Thank you Dr. Mark and Staff

Dr. Mark and Rachel go above and beyond the call of duty! While they are professional they keep it real. Best service I have EVER had in Crescent City. I am a business owner as well. I have trust and belief in Mark as a veterinarian and business owner. He can’t go wrong with Rachel running the front office and assisting him.

Horrible experience. Dr. Martello is SO extremely rude. His demeanor and attitude is absolutely horrendous. He took my dog in the back, would not let me come too, said I can leave if I won’t let my dog go back alone. I let my dog go and I hear my dog yelping, screaming and crying and she came back bleeding. He had employees who have no idea what they’re doing and I’m certain they take control of the dog (clip nails, inject vaccines ect.). If I wanted a unqualified person to do it I would just do it myself and not pay almost $200. The employer he has is so unprofessional and extremely rude as well. I called to have my dogs records faxed over to another vet and at first he couldn’t find them, finally he found them and would not release them to the new vet OR ME. He wouldn’t even tell me the vaccines she got. This man does not care about your animal, do not get fooled. Dr. Woods from All creatures is truly amazing, the staff cares about your animal and so does he, a completely different experience there! Reply; I most definitely would not like to speak to him, as all my concerns are in the review. My dog WAS crying, I heard everything and I also heard every word you guys said, The Dr seemed very angry, And she did come back bleeding on her nail? I also don’t need you to look me up or contact me, just leaving a honest review of my experience. Yes, I am not comfortable using my name as you guys seemed very scary and unpredictable. Thank you, but I found a new vet!
