How to Save Money at Family Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I will be forever grateful to Dr. Lori Jaramillo for her guidance and support during a time of stress for me and my pet, Belle Belle. Belle Belle was going blind when placed under my foster care at age 18 with many emergent and chronic health issues including dry eye resulting in corneal ulceration, a cracked nose due to serious respiratory disease, dental abscess that hampered her ability to eat causing malnutrition, etc. Dr. Jaramillo and her associate devised and oversaw a get-well plan for Belle Belle that got her healthy and happy again until she developed oral cancer. I relied on Dr. Jaramillo to provide advice on how to proceed at this difficult time and she made all the right decisions that gave Belle Belle another 7 months of superior comfort and care which was amazing considering her age and health issues. When we made the decision to put down Belle Belle, I was at peace knowing we did the best for her and had no regrets. I still have 3 pets under Dr. Jaramillo's care and am relieved and comforted with the thought that with her guidance, I could allow my dogs to live out their life until it's their turn to go to heaven without needless suffering.

I have been to Family animal hospital many times in 4 years. This time it was an urgent care visit. My dog was very I’ll. She had bad diarrhea and light vomiting and then bloody stools. They took her in right away. They called me and said she was ready to be picked up. 4 hours later. They checked her pancreas and they said that was clear. They hydrated her because she was lethargic and didn’t eat for 5 days. Send me home with meds for diarrhea and gave me my total for bill. I had so many questions and the doctor didn’t come out to give me any instructions on her diet or what is causing blood nothing. The next day I was keeping a good eye on my dog. She would drink water and maybe one bite of food. She still had blood in her bowls. I called the doctor and they would not return my calls. Finally I told receptionist to relay the message. I am just hanging and worried with a little dog that is really sick they gave me no answers what is causing this, what should we do next to find the problem? The receptionist just merely told me the next time she has a bowl movement bring it in. I had all ready brought one in in original visit. Apparently they didn’t even pay attention to it they told me they needed a fresh one. time was wasting. I was so disappointed. Vets have always talked to me about what’s going on or what the problem could be. I just took her to another vet. He took care of her and gave me information and some medication and told me if she is not feeling better in a couple of days bring her in and we will take x rays of her stomach. I think some vets shouldn’t even be practicing. They made me feel they don’t have time for these precious little lives.

Our dog had a large growth in it's inner ear that was smelly and discharging. We used to be able to take the dog in and speak with the Vet but now everything is "drop off" only. Dog's ears were packed and sent home with drops. Took our dog to another Vet for a 2nd opinion. Turns out that it's a tumor that needed to be surgically removed. We used to go here all the time but they must have new management with new more efficient ideas that unfortunately do not align with the service and interaction that we expect with our pets. I don't drop off my kids with their Pediatrician. Who knows if the Vet even saw our dog or if their tech did all the work...

DO NOT GO HERE. I took my dog here in an emergency as it was the closets vet to us, they dosed my dog with way to much drugs and he spent the next 36 hours hallucinating. He has never recovered. They fried his brain with narcotics and now suffers from seizures.
