How to Save Money at Pet Emergency & Specialty Center-South County
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Our cat Binx ended up throwing up a significant amount, we took our fur child in for check up and received excellent care. He ultimately needed surgery because he had a bowel obstruction but thanks to Dr. Bachman and all of the staff at the Pet Emergency and Speciality Center we got to bring him home and he is thriving once again. I cannot thank the staff more for all the hard work they do. They were transparent with pricing and made sure we were updated everyday. It was a pricy bill but our cat required emergency surgery. They provided us with options for repayment. They worked around our budget and Dr. Bachman truly was an angel and our savior throughout this whole thing. Could not be more grateful. Thank you Pet Emergency and Speciality Center- South County!

Terrible!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE! It is not a true emergency room. My dog had a seizure so I brought her there since it was closest to us. When I arrived there were people waiting to check out and the lady at the front desk was too busy spelling something out for the client checking out to look something up online. I had to interrupt her to let her know my dog had a seizure and needed attention. She smiled at me and told me they weren’t currently accepting patients. She then took her sweet time looking for a list of ACTUAL emergency vets! I’d you live in the South Bay just go to Hotel Circle and save your precious time in emergency situations.

When you are told to go to the ER with a family member you go regardless if she has 4 legs or 2. My baby was sick and these Doctors and staff worked tirelessly to make her better. They were compassionate and was willing to go that extra step to ensure Perfection of Performance. I will take my girl there when she is not at her best from here on out.

I brought my one year old cat in for a urinary blockage. From intake everyone I spoke to was patient and explained everything in detail. I was provided with a summary of all costs before I agreed to have him admitted for treatment. I never felt rushed while I reviewed everything. They even told me I could come visit him during his time there. The doctors called me each day to provide updates which I appreciated. I felt like the quality of service was excellent. Although there was a significant cost to his care. I felt it was reasonable for his time there. I would recommend this center to anyone who is in need of emergency car for their fur babies.

After bringing my kitten here (who was suffering from complications after her surgery), they would not allow me to see her after letting me know she had already passed. They had me waiting in the waiting area for roughly 30 minutes before bringing me into the back room to have the doctor tell me there was nothing they could have done and that sadly she did not make it, after which they had me waiting another 15 minutes before bringing me out front to fill out their paperwork. When we requested to let us see my kitten, they brought us to the back again and her lifeless body had already entered rigor mortis. This was a traumatizing experience after an already difficult night, and I did not witness compassion or kindness from the people at the front desk, but rather a severe ineptitude and a failure to understand the pain a person feels when their pet has passed on. Do not come here if you hope to receive gentle and loving care for your pets. Ridiculous. All they seemed interested in was the money I could offer them, which was a disgusting feeling after everything I had already gone through with my kitten.
