How to Save Money at Groveway Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Groveway is a truly wonderful veterinary hospital. All of the vet techs and reception have really been really kind, and they are really caring and gentle with our cats. Today I'm writing specifically with immense gratitude and appreciation for Dr. Mollie Powell. We are very grateful for the kind and gentle support our rapidly declining 14 year old cat, Claire, received. Dr. Powell helped get us quickly into a specialist when needed and was really responsive in general. Since we live close, Dr. Powell was able to accommodate a home visit for our Claire's release from her physical form. She brought the paw memorial and left it with us which was so thoughtful. Dr. Powell was extremely accommodating and kind, and my husband and I don't think it could have gone any better, given the excruciatingly heartbreaking circumstances. Losing our Claire is devastating for us, but we are so grateful to have been able to help her over the rainbow bridge right where she slept every night for as long as we can remember. Thank you, Dr. Powell, for helping our Claire over the rainbow bridge peacefully at home. Edit to add a big thanks to the really knowledgeable and cat-loving Dr. Emily Holmes, who is mainly there Fridays. We have a chunky cat who we now feel like we have a better understanding of his food requirements and have a good game plan to help him drop weight. Slow and steady, and he seems to already be adjusting well to the new, more strict routine.

We have used Groveway for over 5 years now, and so happy that we found them! Today they saw our pet on very short notice. Thanks to the great team who support us even though our dogs a howler!

Every good vet kept leaving during the time I frequented this place. Those vets were amazing. Dr. Cornelius manhandled one of my pets and Joseph was beyond clueless and didn't know how to read the room. Joseph kept insisting we wait for him to go find a freakin business card when we were in a rush to take our pet elsewhere for help. A pet of ours passed away, we informed Groveway, and they kept sending us routine appointment reminders. When we called them out on it, they couldn't even be bothered to apologize for the mistake. Never again. The entire Vet N Care organization has lost my trust.

I love Groveway. I found them in 2015 when my friend needed help choosing a vet to take her senior cat to say goodbye. I had never been in the room for a euthanasia before and I was very nervous, but needed to be there to support my friend. The entire staff was so compassionate and empathetic. They gave us all the time we needed to say goodbye. They really created a peaceful environment and they handled everything with so much grace that it really felt very beautiful. I have been taking my own pets there ever since. They also helped me have a peaceful goodbye with my first dog, what could otherwise have been a dark experience, was handled with such care. They even created a paw impression for us, which was very special. I have been taking all my animals to Groveway since 2015. My two cats and my other senior dog that has major oral surgery with them as well. I could not give Groveway and their staff higher praise or recommendation. Their new veterinary, Dr. Sip, is wonderful. And crazy enough, she specialized in exotics, which saved my friend's chinchilla who really was on the brink. Everyone at this hospital is incredible, your pets will be in the best hands. 🐾

We recently had to put our 15 year old cat to sleep as his illness had worsened. We took him to Groveway Vet and the tenderness and care they treated both my pet and myself was very comforting. They took special care to explain everything to me and let me spend time before and after with my pet. They helped make a difficult thing as easy as possible. Would recommend them for sure!
