How to Save Money at The Cat Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I brought my nine-year-old kitty to The Cat Hospital for an exam, dental cleaning, and extractions. Dr. Shanker and his team provided quality care and explained their process and procedures to me thoroughly. Their prices were exceptionally good - I paid less for this vet care than I did for the same procedures in North Carolina in 2019 (!) I specifically sought them out because this cat is extremely anxious at the vet, even with medication, so I can't take him to a vet clinic with barking dogs. They were also the easiest to schedule a dental with as a new client, and had the earliest availability of all the clinics I called. The facility was very peaceful and quiet (they were even using a special quiet vacuum in the evening to not disturb the kitties!) I also really appreciated their compassion towards my kitty - and for not exacerbating my guilt around his anxiety/aggression at the vet. The front desk team was very helpful and friendly each time I called and visited; no idea what some of these other reviews are about. Keep up the great work! As a side note, I'm an experienced cat person - I have/had cats with medical issues at home and have volunteered in cat rescue for years. So, I've talked to many vets and have taken my pets and fosters to many clinics. Hope this review is helpful for fellow cat owners looking for a great local vet practice :)

The staff are the best - starting with the front desk. Staff are always very helpful to get answers for questions or even to help transport cats out to my car. Dr. Shanker has saved the lives of more than 1 of my cats who've had difficult diagnoses over the years. Excellent care from all the vets & techs; they will work with me to provide the level of care appropriate. Prices are comparable. It's just cats, so it's less stressful for cats.

Dr. Shanker and the staff at The Cat Hospital are absolutely amazing. They helped our cat overcome a serious condition that so many other veterinarians/veterinary hospitals had not been able to solve. During our cat’s treatment, they took care of him with so much kindness and compassion, which reflects how much they understand cats; they are truly cat people. And the costs for their services are all very reasonable. Our cat is living a second life thanks to The Cat Hospital.

The Cat Hospital and the veterinarians are amazing, thorough, compassionate and caring for every feline patient. I’ve been bringing all of my cats here for over fifteen years. The vets are wonderful, will thoroughly explain what is going on with your pets and provide exhaustive care for every need and they never over charge like many of the other clinics and animal hospitals out there. I literally drive an hour to keep my felines with Dr S at the cat hospital!

Friendly, very caring staff. I've had many cats over the last few decades. Dr. Shanker is a cat whisperer! He's brilliant, He usually knows what's wrong before the test results come back. I find this useful because it helps you brace for what may be coming in the test results. He is kind, gentle, very good with the kitties and understands they are part of your family. It may take a while to get an appointment, take the time and get one. You won't be disappointed.
