How to Save Money at Beverly Oaks Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I brought my 1 yr old cat here for urinary problems, Dr. Leach is amazing when it comes to cats, she listened to my needs and is very sincere. It’s hard to find vets that sit and hear you. She made me feel trust and explained things very well. The girls at the front desk are thorough and friendly. Cathy went above and beyond when I was a stress ball. They all care. Prices are fair. Overall I’m happy with my cats progress so far. I have found my Cat vet, plus it’s conveniently located and only five minutes from my home. Highly recommend.

I have a 10 month old Micro Mini Goldendoodle. We started bringing him to Beverly Oaks Animal Hospital since his first vet visit. Everything was okay in the beginning, until two weeks ago. Our puppy had blood in his stool, and we were concerned. He had a parasite in his intestines and needed medication. Listen to this… he was prescribed the medication TWICE in a row when he only needed one dose for five days of the medication. The doctor didn’t know that we were prescribed two, and couldn’t believe it. Our dog had continuous diarrhea because of this! This situation also caused a delay in my pet being neutered. The doctor wasn’t professional at all and we had to call to get information. I do not recommend this vet AT ALL, and I hope they change their ways of service and operation.

One star is far too many. Zero compassion. Shouldn’t be called an animal hospital . Showed up, dog was bleeding in his face, guy asked me if I had an appointment. I said I didn’t. He said “so you’re a walk in?” I said, yeah. As the dog is bleeding from its face, “what’s the problem?” I said he has a laceration, see (holding the dog even closer to his face). He said they were getting ready to close so to go somewhere else. This is called an animal hospital because???? Terrible.

Dogs Sherberg

I founded Recycled pets Rescue over 30 years ago and mostly specialize in very abused and Senior Dogs. I was also a California State humane officer. I have had my nightmares with vets, particularly VCA vet hospitals. I've even had issues with holistic vets because I tend to stay away from Western medicine as much as possible and my dogs are known for thriving into their twenties. I've been going to Dr Leach over 20 years and cannot say enough good things about her personally and the way she runs her practice. Over the years things get better and better and although I've gone to holistic vets, have found that she's actually helped me more than all of the holistic vets out there and her prices are so fair compared to everyone in the valley. I have to attribute most of my dogs living so long to Dr Leach and her willingness to be open to so many things plus her excellent communication skills, her superhuman patience and the time she spends going over things that I have never found from any other vet. She even is so discerning that her staff are incredible too. I've seen the ups and downs of running an emergency 24/7 practice which she no longer does but even with the chaos of that, I never would go anywhere else.

Adopted my kitten Luna from Bev Oaks. Everyone there is very friendly and took great care of her. She is a bit of a handful so I appreciate their techs for being good with cats. If you have a cat, bring him/her here! Dr Leach is a cat expert!
