How to Save Money at Mountain View Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Our cat got out and got in a fight with another cat. We brought her in for some puncture wounds, and some of her claws had been torn out. Dr D gave her the very best care. He explained everything to us in detail: what he was going to do and why. Very thoughtful and thorough. Here’s the bad part: this is a first class five star vet hospital. It was a lot more expensive than I was expecting, but our cat did get the very best care which is all that is really important. Here are some prices so you will be prepared. Exam $79.50 Covenia (antibiotic) $95.95 Gabapentin liquid (pain killer) $45.00 Subcutaneous fluids $65.00 Total $285.45 On the bright side, I could see an improvement in her on the way home. I guess you get what you pay for.

Our dog ate a Bee and flipped out. I think WE flipped out more. We rushed to Mountain View Animal Hospital and they were great. The staff was friendly. The facility was clean and welcoming. The doctor was great. Highly recommend. They were able to get us in just about right away even without an appointment.

Truly an amazing place with wonderful and compassionate staff. I brought my cat in a couple weeks ago for an emergency. Unfortunately, I had to make the choice to euthenize him. Kendra at the front desk was truly wonderful and incredibly sympathetic and kind. Randy was quick to get my boy taken back and examined and handled him with so much respect and kindness that I am sure made his passing much easier. Both he and Dr. Sobotka were incredibly compassionate and gave me all the time I needed to say my goodbyes to my boy. I was given a tuft of his fur and Dr. Sobotka personally sent a card in the mail with an ink print of my boy's paw. It was such a a beautiful and personal thing to do and I am truly blown away by how wonderful this facility and the staff is. I highly recommend this place for all your pet needs. Thank you, Mountain View Animal Hospital for everything you do and taking care of my family.

They start with retrieving your pet from your vehicle for "emergency" visits, even scheduled emergency visits. After that, you are allowed to come in and wait. Dr. DeLandtsheer has a good bedside manner when talking with the animal pet owner. Very calm, supportive, and informative. The facility is open all seven "days," but is a reasonable time and price for the visit necessary.

I enjoyed their friendly atmosphere and employees. They were attentive to my needs. My only issue is the financial aspect. Of course, upon going there, I knew I would have to get blood work done. I wasn't about to ask how much just to decline over the price. Yet, I still wasn't told how much the cost would be. It feels wrong. Then, upon paying my bill, I asked about payment plans. No. Not anything was offered to help with costs I didn't know how much it would come to until I'm in a lobby with a lot of people listening to my conversation. It felt wrong once again. Perhaps those rich people in Big Bear Lake can afford whatever cost is thrown at them, but I feel it's unethical to bill someone whatever costs and not provide a way to pay for it if more than someone can afford at that time. I guess I will go back to the other clinic in town that can do that for me.
