How to Save Money at Above and Beyond Animal Care
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

A wonderful place and they have always treated my dog like their own. They're always super friendly whenever I go in there to get my dog's medicine. She is a diabetic and so I have to go in at least once a month to get medicine. Super friendly and quick, but not to the point that makes you feel rushed. The vet was super sweet with my senior dog and was very patient with her. We don't go very often to be seen as my dog is pretty healthy other than her diabetes and being a senior. I have recommended this place to multiple different people and always enjoy going here. Definitely feel welcome and have that personable experience that you're looking for. As everyone knows pets are part of the family and this is a place that I feel like will take care of her well.

Above and Beyond, it's more than just a name, it's a practice. Dr. Jan and her team went WAY above and beyond for me and my fur baby, Bubbles. Bubbles had an accident that left her mostly paralyzed in 3/4 of her legs on New Years. I took her to a walk-in clinic that took x-rays, said they were "normal," and told me to crate and sedate Bubbles for a month. They suggested I get referred to a neurologist in UC Davis, which just wasn't feasible for me. I decided I needed a second opinion, and I'm so thankful I did! Based on a referral from a friend who also took their dog in to Dr. Jan for acupuncture and had great success, I desperately called their office in the hopes that they would see Bubbles. Dr. Jan heard my literal cry for help and got Bubbles in right away for her first acupuncture session. I knew right away that I was in the right place to get the help Bubbles needed. Dr. Jan said the x-rays were not normal. She spotted the problem and started treating Bubbles. After the first visit, my little girl was showing HUGE signs of improvement. After the second session, Bubbles was walking with some assistance, and by the 3rd session, she was walking and playing again! I feel like I have witnessed a miracle and will be forever grateful for what Dr. Jan did for us. She gave us hope when we really needed it and gave Bubbles her ability to walk again. I'm still in awe at Bubbles' progress. Just 7 days ago, she was paralyzed, and today, she is a happy walking doggie once again. They truly went ABOVE AND BEYOND, and I can't say enough good things about Dr. Jan and her staff. So I will end it with a heartfelt thank you!! You are the best!

My little dog Blossom was in dire straits. The folks as Above and Beyond got her right in. They treated her like she was one of their own. She is on the mend thanks to these wonderful people. One other thing is Blossoms dad is feeling much better and relieved now. Thanks to all.

Wonderful, caring staff. We've been with Dr. Jen for more than 25 years for all our animals. And her staff is great. They try really hard to get the appointment that is necessary. Horses, cats, dogs....we all love Dr. Jen and her staff.
