How to Save Money at Veterinary Emergency Group
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The staff and doctors at VEG are truly remarkable and compassionate. One night, our cat, named Sebastian, suddenly stopped eating, and since our regular vet was closed for the holiday break, we reached out to VEG. From the moment we arrived, it was clear the facility was clean and well-organized. Dr. Reed stayed with us throughout the process, carefully diagnosing our cat’s condition. We got to see the ultrasound and X-rays, which made everything clear. Sadly, our cat, who was already elderly, was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer. Dr. Reed and the team were incredibly understanding, offering both emotional support and practical guidance during this difficult time. They provided pain medication for our cat to help him eat but were honest in letting us know that euthanasia would likely be necessary soon. About a week later, when our cat stopped eating altogether and began hiding, we knew it was time. Because of the care and respect they had shown us, we returned to VEG for the euthanasia. The staff was thoughtful, compassionate, and allowed us to proceed at our own pace. They sent us a heartfelt card afterward, along with a paw print keepsake. Overall, VEG stands out not only for its advanced facilities—including on-site diagnostic equipment like ultrasound and X-ray—but also for its exceptional communication. The doctors are caring, transparent, and don’t sugarcoat difficult news, which made a challenging experience a little easier to bear.

I found my bird lethargic and dying at the bottom of the cage. I scrambled to find a place to take him but there are few places where I live (Hesperia, CA). VEG was one of the place referred to me by my local veterinarian. I drove slightly over an hour after they told me they would see him immediately. I got there and they put me in a room immediately. Phoenix was seen within 5 minutes and I was given the news that he likely would not make it. Still, they developed a plan and monitored him over night. He began to make progress little by little and was administered medication along with fluids. The care was amazing and every staff member went out of their way to make sure we were both comfortable and okay. This was just a day ago so I’m not out of the woods yet with my bird. But they definitely prevented his death for at least one more day and his health is looking to be improving. I will forever be grateful to this place for taking care of my baby with care, compassion, and precision. The first photo was taken about 20 minutes after being put in an incubator. The second and third were taken the following day.

If you're even considering bringing your pet here, you can just stop reading this and go. We had an emergency and our two year old English Budgie was losing a lot of blood for being such a small parrot. Our regular vet is not an emergency vet and this happened over the weekend on top of that. After a few phone calls everyone referred us here and it was well worth the drive (we live in DTLA) Their ER fee was worth every penny especially for what they ended up doing. In short, we were amazed. As soon as we got there they put him in an incubator and started giving him meds to relax him so they could handle him and see where the blood was coming from. As soon as they located that, they actually put him under anesthesia (a tiny parrot! we were amazed!) and operated and removed the broken feather that was causing him to lose blood. They let us watch the entire process. They then did a small injection of fluids since he had lost so much blood. The whole experience was the most impressive thing I've ever seen go down in a vet. This place needs its own reality show. While we were there, a dog came in that had some major issue and another, much larger parrot, came in that couldn't open its eye. They can handle whatever your little critters have gotten themselves into and with ease. Nothing but good things to say about them. While we were there the vet was Dr. Cody (amazing) and his assistant Jess was the bird specialist, she was incredible and they both totally put us at ease with their confidence in handling the situation. 11/10

I can’t overstate the high quality of care my 16 year old cat received at VEG this morning. I have never had such a positive experience at any emergency vet. I love how it’s one big room and you can see the treatments taking place. Every staff member was so caring and gentle with both the animals and their owners. We are so extremely lucky to have this 24/7 emergency vet in the area! They truly care, are very knowledgeable and passionate about helping pets feel better. Thank you so much for your compassionate care for my old kitty Stella this morning! I hope not to need to come back of course, but feel SO reassured knowing this is where we will go should another pet emergency arise.

3/5/25 We brought our guinea pig, Kava, into VEG last evening because when we were bathing him, we felt a lump under his nipple. The staff here is INCREDIBLE!! You are in GREAT HANDS here at VEG. The vet and nurses have been so amazing to us, they literally go above and beyond to help you feel at home. Kava had to have surgery to remove tumors and they don't mind me worshipping God and praying continuously over him.❤️ Thank you so very much VEG!! AMAZING HOSPITALITY AND SERVICE!!! I wish I could leave more than 5 starsss :((
