How to Save Money at Veterinary Emergency Group

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We had a horrible accident with our girl. She was playing with our bigger dog when he pawed her eye ball out of socket. We took her to VEG Emergency Hospital. The minute we got there the staff was amazing. We were greeted by Jess our Nurse who immediately took her, accessed her and gave her pain medication right away. The office Admin's Holly & Orsa were amazing in getting the paperwork and discussing our plan. Dr. Townsley examined her and got a plan in place. He was very professional and so caring to our situation & last but not least the Hospital Manager Joey was just another wonderful addition to the team. Our experience was amazing the staff really do care about our fur babies and made our experience one we will never forget. Our Girl is set for surgery and we are confident she is in great hands. So next time you have an emergency with your fur baby I highly recommend VEG.

I came here on the hardest day of my life. The day I lost my baby Toby. I had come here previously and had a great experience so when my boy was losing his fight with Lymphoma I knew to come here. We called them prior to arriving and they were already prepared for us and we were seen immediately. The whole staff treated me with so much care and sympathy. They also did everything they could to make sure I was comfortable and my boy was comfortable. Although it was an incredibly difficult time, they took extra efforts to make sure the process was as easy for me as possible. They also mailed me a card along with a few copies of his paw print after I made the request. Thank you so much VEG. If my boy was still here I would never take him to any other emergency hospital.

No one wants to take their pet to an emergency room, but this is the place if you have too! Absolutely a life saver. Called numerous places that no longer had an exotic vet. While I was there they treated my African grey, a guinea pig, a chicken, numerous dogs and cats. This place is clean and the staff is caring. A new way to treat pets. They need to open a facility in Rancho Cucamonga! Highly recommended!!! Zeke was treated by Dr. Ortiz and Harley br Dr Villanueva..I love all of you !!!!

This place was awesome. As a guinea pig owner, one of the toughest things is finding qualified vets that can take care of exotic animals and it can be even harder when you run into an emergency when your primary vet is closed. My guinea pig is 6 years old, almost 7, and he’s my whole world so taking him to a vet I don’t know can be scary. Thankfully, after playing loads of phone tag with other offices, someone pointed me over to Vet Emergency Group and when I gave them a call, I was relieved at their kindness and willingness to help ASAP. They let us come right in, and the care and attention they provided to my guinea pig meant so much to me. He’s my whole entire world. I want to thank the three vets that helped him especially, I wish I got their names. But an even bigger thank you to the exotic coach who was very educated on guinea pigs, I felt instantly at ease when I heard her teaching the other technicians about guinea pig anatomy, and when they had their hands on him, she never let go or had her sight off of him. He behaved so well for all the vets and that’s a true telling of how comforting they were. I took a video of them doing an ultrasound and saw a vet petting Spooky for his comfort, which warmed my heart because I would’ve done the same if I could get in there. The one name I did catch was Dr. Cody, and I want to thank him as well. He told me Spooky is the oldest guinea pig he’s met and seemed impressed by him, and that made me feel so proud as a guinea pig mom, and like I’m doing something right despite him feeling sick now. We’re not completely out of the dark yet, but I’m comforted because of them and staying positive, so I’m writing this review because if anything happens to my baby, I know this team did everything they could, and I’m grateful.

I can't say enough good things about the Veterinary Emergency Group! From the moment I walked in, I felt an overwhelming sense of compassion and care. The staff here truly goes above and beyond, not just for the animals, but for the pet owners as well. They made me feel like part of the process, explaining everything clearly and allowing me to stay with my pet throughout treatment, which really eased my anxiety. The openness and transparency in their approach are refreshing—there were no closed doors, and I never felt left in the dark about my pet's care. The team was quick to respond, incredibly knowledgeable, and most importantly, they treated my pet with the same love and dedication as I do. You can really tell that everyone here is passionate about what they do. It’s rare to find a place where both medical expertise and genuine empathy come together so perfectly. I highly recommend VEG to anyone in need of emergency care for their pets.
