How to Save Money at Family Pet Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had taken my cat to a DIFFERENT clinic for possible urinary blockage which can be fatal in male cats – that other clinic charged about $400 for ultrasound and medications...a couple weeks later I was back at that clinic...same treatment and cost. When the issue returned a couple weeks later (it always came back after the medication ended) I decided to go to Dr. Lee instead. After the exam, the staff presented a ***suggested*** list of treatment items (medicine, foods, etc.) and made sure I understood I didn't have to choose everything they listed, so I chose only those things I wanted them to do, including an alternative medicine (injection) since the previous treatments at the other clinic didn't work long term. Dr. Lee talked to me after treating my cat to explain what he did, and the tech Dianna helped me understand which medications to give him and when, and was very kind and helpful. My beautiful boy hasn't had an issue since. We just took our puppy to them this week...she had eaten something toxic and couldn't stop throwing up. They treated her immediately and sent us home with medications...and this morning she is back to normal. I am very grateful for Dr. Lee and his staff. I think some of the other reviewers don't understand that the facility is small so they can't go in the back with their pets–this might freak some people out, but Dr. Lee and staff truly care about all the pets that come in their clinic. I trust them implicitly with my pets and know that when I take them in, they'll be loved on and cared for.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting a fantastic pet clinic that truly exceeded my expectations. My elderly dog, who has been dealing with a number of health issues, was in need of a thorough check-up and procedure. From the moment I walked into the clinic, I knew that my furry friend was in good hands. Dr. Lee who examined my dog was extremely skilled and knowledgeable. He took the time to listen to my concerns and answer all of my questions, and I felt confident that he knew exactly what he was doing. He was able to diagnose my dog's health issues with great accuracy and recommended a procedure that would help improve her condition. The procedure was performed with the utmost care and attention to detail. Dr. Lee and his staff were very gentle with my dog, and they made sure that she was comfortable throughout the entire process. I was impressed with the level of expertise that was demonstrated by the veterinarian during the surgery. After the procedure was completed, my dog was given excellent care and attention during her recovery. Dr. Lee provided detailed instructions on how to care for her at home, and he even followed up with me afterwards to check on her progress. I felt confident that my dog was receiving the best possible care and attention at this clinic. Overall, I would highly recommend this pet clinic to anyone in need of veterinary services. Dr. Lee and his staff were extremely professional, caring, and skilled, and they truly went above and beyond to ensure that my dog received the best possible care. I am grateful for their expertise and compassion, and I will definitely be returning to this clinic in the future.

Diana states she is the manager...perhaps she shouldn't be. She has the worst phone etiquette and customer service I have ever encountered. She is more than rude and unprofessional. Get her off the phones or out of the office.

Very unprofessional doctor Lee and his staff. They take your dog as a hostage inside thinking you not paying but in reality you have all the intention of paying them. Also, one thing to note my dog went into the emergency department with life threatening condition and the clinic was contacted by the hospital for life saving information by requesting his record, they never sent the records even after multiple calls and emails. Not recommended if you care about your dog.
