How to Save Money at Equine Veterinary Associates, Inc.

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

As a 27+year Professional Recreational Trail Trainer and Equine Care Provider specializing in short and long term Vet-advised treatment and recovery programs with a long standing working relationship with EVA i.e Dr Kirk Pollard and Dr David Tressor. I can say without a shadow of doubt that this group of Equine Vets are the best in Orange County and Beyond! Professional, Knowledgeable, Diligent, with the Highest Degree of Respect to their clients new and/or old. They are all well versed in the newest protocols in the Equine Medical field and in industry trends yet still strong in their personal experience with "tired and true" methods of treating the body and mind of our horses... IMHO EVA does their best to satisfy the routine appointments and daily needs of all their clientele in the most professional manner possible... Prioritizing the unforeseen and accidental injury and/or illnesses we have all faced will always be something any equine vet has to deal with on a daily sometimes hourly basis and I will say that if one of my scheduled appt gets bumped back or asked to reschedule its because these amazing caring vets are scrambling to save a life and I'm glad they're on my team! So Do Not hesitate to call for an appointment if you are new to the area or just looking unto a new team of doctors to back you and your horse's health and happiness! Happy Trails!

I want to recommend this veterinary practice and the amazing vet Dr. Valera Wasmund in particular she has a great deal of empathy and Knowledge. I called for an emergency as my old Swedish Warm Blood was down in his stall she with the help of some extra muscle had him up in know time. I would not have thought to call this practice as it's base is in Anaheim and I am in Chino Hills and thought mistakenly that they would be extremely expensive I was wrong they are the best and not excessively expensive.

If I could mark this higher than 5 stars, I would. I have been a client of Dr. Kirk Pollard and Equine Veterinary Associates for over 25 years. Growing from a single horse owner to a high performance / FEI dressage professional, Dr. Pollard and his staff have placed the bar extremely high for veterinary care. From the simplest of routine care, to the most difficult and challenging diagnosis, to the inevitable middle of the weekend night colic call, Dr. Pollard and his entire EVA staff have only exhibited professionalism and empathetic care. Dr. Pollard, in particular, is a master at diagnosing difficult soundness issues, and offers conservative, effective solutions and treatment plans. I can't recommend Equine Veterinary Associates highly enough! As I prepare to relocate to the east coast, I will be at a loss without Dr. Pollard and Equine Veterinary Associates.

I have been using Dr. Treser and this practice for the past 4+ years. They are great! Prices are reasonable compared to other vets I have found and they always make it a point to explain exactly what they are doing and why. My mare Isabel had a foal in April and they made sure to be there after the first 24 hours to check on the filly Isabel had when I made the call to inform she had foaled. Dr. Treser made sure Isabel was all prepped vaccine wise before the birth and told me what I needed to expect and do since this was the first mare I would be foaling on my own. When my mare Lovely had a colic episode 2 nights ago Dr. Wasmund was at my property (Norco) within 30 mins of my call to their emergency line. Lovely is doing great and eating well on her wheat bran mash for her recovery period. Whenever I have left them a message for non emergencies regarding appointments they have always gotten back to me the next business day either by phone or email. Thank you EVA Drs!
