How to Save Money at Animal Orthopedic Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My dog recently hurt her arm and my vet recommended taking her to this Orthopedic Doctor. This was a very scary time but the staff at this orthopedic vet made us feel so safe and welcome. The doctor took his time to explain everything in great detail. They discussed any charges along the way so there were no surprises. The only surprise was the bag of new food they so generously gave to us to take home. Everyone there was so incredibly friendly and professional. It made this scary situation not so scary. I am so truly grateful for the love and help we received!

Our five month of old Doberman pincher puppy was limping and we took him to see his regular veterinarian. Within 3min of being seen by his regular veterinarian, we were told that our puppy definitely had a CCL tear and would need surgery. They wanted to take him back immediately and sedate him for X-rays and a CCL test. They also were saying he might need surgery that same day. It was all within a couple of minutes and overwhelming to say the least. We decided to get a second opinion from an Orthopedic specialist. We brought our puppy to Dr. Vogel and him and his team took X-rays, sat down with us and explained that our puppy did not have a CCL tear and showed us all of the X-rays as well as recommended an anti-inflammatory medication. Our puppy ended up having nothing wrong. Overall, you can tell Dr. Vogel cares about his patients and the puppies he sees. He took the time to sit down with us and go over everything as well as give us recommendations. It's great working with this veterinarian that truly cares! Definitely recommend this specialist animal Orthopedic center.

Such a CLEAN and pleasant place. You know how regular vet offices can be smelly and kind of run down. Not this place. I wish they did traditional veterinary care besides specialty. But their staff was wonderful and very helpful with us, as our dog is dog aggressive and they accommodated that really well. Very informative and helped us develop a plan for our boy who is severely arthritic. I look forward to working with them.

Our Labrador tore a tendon in his rear leg. We took him here because I had previously done some work for the owner, so I was familiar with what they do. They took very good care of our pet and the surgery went very well. He's up and around a week later. It's getting hard to keep him from wanting to walk around already. The staff has been great with follow-up phone calls to check on progress. They're always available for questions or concerns via phone. Though the cost of the surgery was a bit pricey, we happily spent the money for this level of quality to get our fur baby walking again. Thanks to everyone at the clinic.

Extremely courteous staff. They really have a love for animals. On our last appointment they greeted our fur baby like he was their own. We never have to wait a long time for our appointment. They thoroughly explained what our fur baby needed, the recovery process and were available for questions and concerns. I highly recommend!!
