How to Save Money at Western Veterinary Center, Medical & Surgical Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Compassionate Care in Our Time of Loss On the late night of February 18, 2025, we rushed our beloved Morkie, Lola, to Western Veterinary Center. From the moment we arrived, the entire staff showed kindness, professionalism, and deep compassion during an incredibly difficult time. Despite the heartbreaking outcome, we are grateful for the gentle care they provided to Lola and the support they extended to us. A special thank you to the lady who was there with her own dog and took a moment to express her condolences. Your words meant more than you know. Western Veterinary Center is a place of true compassion, and we will always be thankful for the care they provided in Lola’s final moments.

Beautiful, state of the art veterinary hospital. The doctors are excellent and very kind and all the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. I love coming here. They helped my puppy Chai when I thought she had ingested a piece of her blanket. Their quick response saved my baby 🐶❤️

I want to sincerely thank all the staff at this facility. We were in a distressing situation and I had called another 24/7 Emergency Vet who were unfortunately not helpful or accommodating to an emergency situation. When I called your office at 12am, the front desk gentleman was calm and very reassuring that we would get the help we needed. Upon arrival, they took our cat right away to perform emergency measures while the office staff were explaining everything in detail. Throughout the time we were there, the staff were always checking or updating us. They were amenable to the decisions we thought were best and didn’t push for anything else. While we ultimately had to put our cat down, the staff and office were amazing. I wish I could’ve remembered their names but please know we appreciated all your support in distressing time. This will be our go-to place in case of an emergency. Thank you to the team on the morning of December 4th for making a sad and heartbreaking experience a bit more manageable. You took care of my Boo and took away any pain she had. Again, thank you and the team for their efforts, patience, and support.

Not only beautiful on the outside, but beautiful on the inside! When you open the doors you are met with wonderful, caring, loving, knowledgeable people who take great care of my puppy! Thank you! Don’t hesitate to hand over your babies to them for their care.

I called no less than 13 veterinary offices to get help for my bunny, this place was the only one who would take my bun. Not even Access was helpful. M-F there are amazing vets in LA ready to see your bunny, but god forbid they have a problem on the weekend. We called and they fit us in and didn’t even charge for the ultrasound my bunny desperately needed. Everyone here was so friendly and so knowledgeable and so ready to help, I immediately felt more at ease. They have been so great about letting us know what’s going on, asking about every thing they were going to do including having to shave a little of my bunnies fur and why. There was an emergency before us and they came to let us know it would be longer and why, which of course we understand. Like any ER, it’s just how it goes sometimes. We would absolutely recommend anyone come here with their pet.
