How to Save Money at Briarcrest Veterinary Care Center PLLC
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Very happy with my first experience with Briarcrest Vet Care Center! They were extremely friendly and more important were very friendly with my dog making quick friends with her. The vet and her staff answered all of my questions in detail making sure I understood the information. Never was there any pressure for decisions/treatments, rather they made sure I was aware of any and all options. While there they gave me the feeling that my dog and I were their top priority and that I had their undivided attention.

Lengthy review but details necessary. Went in to get a bag of the Hills Prescription Diet dog food RECOMMENDED by the vet at this location for my dog which I have been doing for over 2 years. The food has helped with my dogs health so I am willing to pay extra for it. Never had a problem until last week. Barb, who has been there for as long as I can remember was sitting at the front desk. She stated in THE most condescending, patronizing tone "this is prescription dog food and you have to "maintain" a "relationship" with this practice in order to continue to get it, you probably have not been told this" (no apology given) I replied I had not. She further scolded me stating "he was last seen May of 22 and is 3 mths overdue!" So now I feel it's implied that I am derrilect in the care of my pet and it is now MY problem for THEIR lack of communicating this to me. Its DOG FOOD, NOT MEDICINE..... DOG FOOD! I am a little panicky since I am almost out of food and buying over the counter food would be risking the well being of my dog. She offers me a same day appt which I take since I am under the impression I can get a bag after the appt. Well what do you know, at the appt a couple of things are "discovered" wrong with my dog, trace yeast in one ear and possible skin allergy which require a couple of prescriptions to fix, a choice of a $196 injection or $104 for an additional prescription for the allergy. The tech presents an estimate of close to $400 and states "we don't have the type of dog food you need in stock" followed by an unconvincing "sorry". What?!? That was the whole reason for the appt! I was informed they did have the canned version of what I need to hold me over until they get their supply in. So why didn't Barb check on this before she booked the same day appt? She even asked how much food I had left. I'm feeling very deceived, distrustful and starting to get angry. I eliminate items from the estimate to try to get the total amount decreased. Tech brings this to the attention of the vet and returns with a new estimate stating "we checked around and "found" a bag of the type you need". Wow! Imagine that! The new estimate is now back up to just under $400 again. I now get the feeling as if I am negotiating a used car deal, feeling taken and used. So, in the long run, I paid Briarcrest close to $400 for a bag of dog food and left feeling I was played a fool. Went to my son's vet who is independent, not part of a chain like Briarcrest and that vet charged $72 for the injection, not $196. That vet also provided a complimentary prescription due to my strained finances. This totally restored my respect for veterinary science as their care was sincere and demonstrated they truly cared about the well being of my dog. I have been a client of Briarcrest for many many years and will no longer give them any more of my hard earned money or the company of my cherished pets. Bye bye Briarcrest.

My pets and I have experienced the entire gamut of care at this superb clinic, from a new puppy right now, to a diabetic canine, to many felines who have been kindly cared for through various difficulties and finally gently euthanized when the time came. Have been going there since early 2009, and always been impressed and thankful for the genuine concern and how dependable it all is. Dr. Maki is our regular veterinarian, and she is the embodiment of knowledge and compassion. Summed up, I cannot imagine her not being our veterinarian!
