How to Save Money at Arizona Small Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The BEST place to take your animals! Dr. Edwards saved a few of my babies already, but the main one is Picasso. After taking Picasso elsewhere and they couldn't help her, I turned to Dr. Edwards and she helped me save my rabbit. She is amazing with all the animals and treats them like her own. I love to see the love my babies get from every staff member in the office. The best care for your babies is here! Thank you, Dr. Edwards and all staff members for everything you do!!

I changed my review from 5 stars and dismissing Dr. Edward's abrupt interactions, to 1 star and that's because zero stars wasn't an option. This change is based on my last interaction with Dr. Edwards and her poor treatment of my animal and her behavior towards me. I will not accept anyone, especially a vet, to treat me or my animal like that. I now see a specialist for my iguana who knows where to do an intramuscular antibiotic injection in reptiles (not in the tail, by the way) and is amazing with Zeus and my family. Yes, I pay a lot more, but hands-down is the reason my iguana is alive today. Zeus is alive 4 months after being euthanized twice based on a misdiagnosis (not by Dr. Edwards) - it was a horrible and traumatic accident. I went to Dr. Edwards a couple days after the euthanasia to get some help with Zeus. Dr. Edwards dismissed us and her treatment of me and Zeus that day and the things she said and the way she interacted with us is unacceptable. No excuses and no second chances. What a disappointment.

I took my 5 month old puppy to get a shot and said my dog needed to be put down because he was barking she said "it would be the best thing to do" also she wanted me to leave my dog over for an x-ray with her and told me he would end up being put in a black bag. After this experience it would be safer to take your pet somewhere else.

Read the reviews. This vet is rude and untrustworthy. The last time we visited, she chewed me out for a good 10 minutes about the prescription food I was giving my cat. Keep in mind, this is food that the office had to approve purchase of, so why didn't anyone say anything sooner? I guess she just needed someone to direct her anger at that day. The office is cramped and dirty, and in the last year of visits, two different men seemed to have been living in the back of the building. I'm not sure what's going on here, but it's WIERD.

They are wonderful with our family 4 legged kids. They took excellent care of my MIDNIGHT. They truly care about the pets and will help you in any way that they can. I will take any of my babies to them because of the customer service you get. They treat you like family. They are definitely worth paying the money to for the GREAT CARE that you know that you WILL GET THERE FOR SURE. THANK YOU SO MUCH. YOU SAVED MY BABIES LIFE.
