How to Save Money at McClintock Animal Care Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had a wonderful experience with this vet clinic! I'm always a little bit nervous when going to the vet because I know my pup can get a bit anxious with all the smells and noises and other dogs but my appointment was so smooth, everyone was extremely friendly and I could really tell how comfortable my dog was. From the start the environment felt very clean and welcoming and there was actually no other pups in the waiting room which allowed for my dog to smell around calmly for a minute or two. The receptionist was super sweet and the nurses Kaitlin & Julie were so warm and welcoming to my pup, they made sure he felt comfortable by welcoming him with smiles and pets and really just took the extra time to make his experience comfortable, which as a dog mom also made me feel super comfortable and happy to have chosen this vet! I stopped in for a health certificate for airplane travel and Dr. Lee was very helpful in making sure we meet all the requirements before our travel and even during the health check up, rewarding him with treats and more pets - my dog really loves all the attention and cuddles so I could tell this really helped his entire experience. The process did not feel rushed, everything was clear and time for questions was also available & I felt like it was a calm, safe and comfortable environment for my dog which definitely helped with him not feeling so anxious. Upon leaving nurse Kaitlin walked us out and all the receptionists made sure to wish a goodbye - it was so sweet! I usually feel a little nervous for vet visits and how my dog is going to react but this clinic and all the employees helped both me & my dog! It was a great experience and I would recommend their services to anyone who is looking. I will definitely be back in the future!

I took my cat here for dental extractions and had a great experience. The veterinarian and nurses were great at communicating and checking up on her in the days following her surgery. They were able to get me an earlier appointment to work with my schedule and provided recommendations for specialists. This will become my regular vet.

I would just say, whoever comes here, should make sure they get a second opinion from a different vet. If it is something that is a major illness or a major expense. And be sure to check the labs and bring them to be sure they are being read in the correct way, and that tests that do not need to be done, are not done. Of course, we want to be sure our dog is healthy in all aspects, I am just recommending this to save money a use for your dog in the future. Just do your due diligence, as I failed to do. I am writing this a week later, after a McClintock, it animal Hospital had a chance to respond, and I am very happy with their response as they were thorough about explaining everything to me about the results. I should have let them respond personally first before posting this publicly. Sure, I would still say get a second opinion sometimes for something that is expensive, but I am no longer saying that they were incorrect so I do apologize to them. Thank you!

My two cats and I had a great experience with McClintock Animal Care Center! Everyone from the vets to the techs to the office staff were incredibly kind and caring; they always follow up to ask how the cats are doing and they are very responsive to questions and requests (e.g. getting prescription food refilled, getting a copy of records, etc). Everyone here truly loves pets, and it shows! The only reason I've stopped taking my cats here is that we moved across the country - I hope I can find a new vet as competent and caring as these folks!

More expensive than other vets, but it is clean and they seem to care about your dog. Great follow up after visits.
