How to Save Money at Urgent Petcare

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This “urgent pet care” is an absolute joke. As an urgent care, your JOB is to properly triage pets coming in. Just like a human ER, emergencies go first. My friends brought in her cat who wouldn’t even stand up and was extremely ataxic when standing. This is a critical patient. The assistant brought him to the back and then said that his vitals were normal and that they had a 8 hour wait. Neurological symptoms automatically mark a patient to critical. They told us to make an appointment and come back in 8 hours. 8 hours later my cat was on the verge on passing away. I rushed him back in, he was URINARY OBSTRUCTED. Before speaking to a doctor or even a nurse they wanted a 900 dollar deposit, they said he had this obstruction and that he likely would not make it. The doctor returned with my dying cat in his carrier, they gave him a pain medication but did not place a catheter, did not put him on any heat support, or more importantly, unblock him. When we asked about the disease they had the audacity to tell me that this is common in male cats. This is common but the assistant didn’t think to palate his bladder. Which by the way is STANDARD for any sick male cat. They missed this and it ultimately killed him. This joke of an “urgent” care then told me that it would be over 1 thousand dollars for the euthanasia, ashes back and a paw print. This places truly does only care about money. They do not care about you or your suffering pet. This urgency care practice less quality medicine than a regular primary vet.

Update 2/26/24 I was back tonight with my GSD who had blood in her stool this evening after a few days of diarrhea. I had already made an appointment with her regular vet but it isn’t until tomorrow! I saw that tonight and wondered if we should wait. I decided to go to Urgent Petcare and get her looked at.. it’s worth the fee to not feel stressed all night. Well immediately I was greeted by Paige at front desk and soon Freddie came to take my dog back for vitals. Paige patiently helped me check in (I’m old) and soon Freddie was back with my dog. He said vitals were good and I could rest easy tonight. She is not that ill and can wait till her regular appointment tomorrow! The honesty and helpfulness of both Paige and Freddie was a breath of fresh air for this super stressed out dog (and cat) mom! If you are ever in need of care for your beloved pets.. run don’t walk to Urgent Petcare!! Thank you all— once again. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I have a beautiful cat I rescued off the street 4 years ago. Thinking the cat was a she and a young cat.. turns out HE was an older gent with some health issues. We treated his dental problems and had radio iodine treatment to cure his hypothyroidism. All in the first year or so. He’s been pretty healthy since till a month ago when he had a bout of diarrhea and vomiting. We had him looked at then and treated him at his vet with probiotics and he improved …until today!! With the vet booked we turned to Urgent Petcare. Upon arrival I was nervous and upset but Amanda at the front desk was so nice and very helpful. She assisted me with the sign in that was a bit over my online skill level!!! I was so happy I offered to buy her lunch. Then out came the vet tech, Patsy, to get Piper. She explained she would be checking his vitals and would let me know after he was seen and examined by the vet. It wasn’t long and I was in a room with my cat waiting for the vet. I then met Dr Moezzi and he explained the treatment plan and my Piper was escorted to the back for labs, fluids and meds. I am so impressed with this facility and the staff. I am 70 years old and have had 18 dogs and 6 cats through the years. I’ve seen my share of vets and ER’s. This place was TOP NOTCH. Dr Moezzi, Amanda and Patsy were professional, knowledgeable, friendly, compassionate and helpful. The facility was clean, beautiful and organized. I am soooo thankful we have an urgent care for our pets here in Surprise and I think we have the BEST around. Piper and I are so thankful you’re here.

I took my ailing cat Barnaby to Urgent Petcare and they were able to spend some time with Barnaby and determined after a few tests that he does, indeed, have diabetes. They were so welcoming and understanding the entire time he was there. Their hearts are in the right place and they truly care about the sweet babies that come into their facility. The staff is exceptional and I am SO VERY GRATEFUL for all of them and the kindness and graciousness they showed both my sweet boy Barnaby and me.

We were at a different vet office getting a diagnosis for our husky who was in a lot of pain, they unfortunately couldn’t do what our pup needed due to how booked they were that day. We ended up calling ahead to urgent Petcare to see if they could get us in and help. When we got there Joe took our husky back right away and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience from him and all of the staff. They were very detailed and had an informative breakdown of cost and what exactly we were paying for. Everything was very timely and didn’t seem like we waited long. Every customer who walked in was taken back almost immediately and the staff was incredibly professional and urgent. Would 100% recommend.
