How to Save Money at Yavapai Emergency Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We have used YEAH multiple times. Every time, we have had a positive experience. The staff is compassionate, caring, knowledgeable, professional, and truly loves every animal. On one occasion, I found a severely inured cat in my yard in Mayer. They took him when no one else would, so he would not suffer any longer. My dog was really sick the other night. They took very good care of him and gave me several diagnostic options to figure out what was wrong. I make the monthly investment in pet insurance (I highly recommend) and was able to do most diagnostics to find out what was wrong. They helped my pup recover. Today he played the first time since the ER visit. Thank you for helping us. We are grateful.

I first want to say that I haven't actually come in to see them. I live far away and seeing an emergency vet late at night can be a challenge where I live. My vet recommends YEAH for emergency care, so in the middle of the night a couple nights ago, I gave them a call shortly after my small dog swallowed an object. I asked for advice, as I wasn’t sure what to do. I can't thank this receptionist enough for her help. She was very friendly and professional. You can tell how serious she takes her job and that she loves to help others. She’s the exact kind of person you want to talk to when you go through a stressful situation with your pets. She told me everything that I needed to know about what happened with my dog and what my options were to help her. Since my she was still acting normal, I closely monitored her for the rest of that night and for the next couple days. It's now been two days since that phone call and my girl passed the object with no issue. I will definitely keep this place in mind when it comes to emergency care for my girl. I can’t thank you all enough for what you do for us and our fur babies!

We had to take our beloved dog here recently after she had a massive seizure and needed to be put down….despite it being 6 am on a holiday weekend, Yavapai Emergency Animal Hospital’s staff was very attentive, professional and kind. We just received a card signed by staff expressing sympathy for our loss. I am very impressed by them and will be reaching out to them to thank them for making a very difficult event just a little easier…

The Staff here were wonderful. I rushed my dog here from prescott after she had been attacked by another dog. I was a mess and she was bleeding pretty bad. They were calm and helpful and kept me updated on her progress. I am so thankful these wonderful people were here and we have this emergency clinic

I HIGHLY recommend this 24/7 Emergency Animal Hospital and their new sister Urgent location in Prescott. Not only are all staff highly trained, compassionate and patient, they are very well cared for by the owners. Because of employee well-being and exceptional coaching, this team is the most well-oiled group I have ever observed. There is clear communication, genuine teamwork and passion for their work. My dog has been in 4 times this month and the staff are always there for me. My dog is treated with urgency and love. The doctors are all truly exceptional. Everyone goes above and beyond. All local dog owners need to know about this place!
